87. Week Of Prayer For Christian Unity
Bishop Charles L. Helton, christian methodist episcopal Church, Seventh EpiscopalDistrict. The Rev.Dr. Diane C. Kessler, Massachusetts Council of Churches
http://www.masscouncilofchurches.org/docs/weekofPryr05.htm
All things are yours…you belong to Christ, and Christ, the unique foundation, belongs to God. (from 1 Corinthians 3:1-23) AN ECUMENICAL LETTER FROM RELIGIOUS LEADERS TO THE CHRISTIAN CHURCHES IN MASSACHUSETTS Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
January 18-25, 2005
A comprehensive number of Christian church leaders in the Commonwealth have signed this shared letter, coordinated by the Massachusetts Council of Churches, urging participation in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The signers have included a prayer for unity for use in ecumenical worship services and other appropriate contexts. Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, We the pastors of Christian communities in Massachusetts write you, as we do every year, to urge you to prepare for and participate in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This particular practice of prayer, begun over a century ago, arises from our longing to see fulfilled in our communities the desire of Jesus Christ for the unity of those who follow him. Each year a text from Sacred Scripture is proposed on which we are invited to reflect; this text inspires our prayer for the gift of and calling to unity. "You belong to Christ," St. Paul tells us. Indeed, by our baptism we are His people; baptism makes us one in Christ, who commits Himself to us.

M ethodism in the United States split in 1844. The cause of the split was slavery. Bishop Andrew came into possession of slaves. At the Methodist general conference a resolution was put forth that Andrew not be permitted to exercise office until he rid himself of his human property. Northern Methodists voted in favor of and Southern Methodists against the resolution. Within two years the Southern churches had formed their own conference.

MEMPHIS (DNS) Amid soaring anthems, brass fanfares, high-energy gospel music, quiet reflections, prayer and fond reminiscence, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and nine other Protestant denominations launched a new ecumenical venture called Churches Uniting in Christ (CUIC) here Jan.18-21. Churches Uniting in Christ is a Christian unity partnership expressed through shared worship, mission and ministry. It is not and does not intend to be a merger of the member communions. The CUIC denominations are: the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, the United Church of Christ, the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church (USA), the United Methodist Church, the International Council of Community Churches, the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church and the Episcopal Church. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is a CUIC Partner in Mission and Dialogue. Churches Uniting in Christ is the fruit of more than 40 years of church unity discussions by the Consultation on Church Union (COCU). During the weekend of events, the Consultation officially ended and Churches Uniting in Christ came into being.

Summary Disposition - Failure to State a Claim - Review - Standard
A motion for summary disposition based upon the failure to state a claim tests the legal sufficiency of a claim by the pleadings alone. A trial court's decision on the motion is reviewed de novo, and the appellate court must determine if the claim was so clearly unenforceable as a matter of law that no factual development could establish the claim and justify recovery. All factual allegations supporting the claim are accepted as true, as well as any reasonable inferences or conclusions which can be drawn from the facts. However, mere conclusions unsupported by allegations of fact cannot state a cause of action.
MCR 2.116(C)(8)
Negligence - Duty - Summary Disposition
In a negligence action, summary disposition is proper if the defendant owed no duty to the plaintiff under the alleged facts. MCR 2.116(C)(8)
