CHRISTIANITY IN BANGLADESH By Jerome D' Costa Author of the book Bangladeshey Catholic Mondoli (The Catholic Church in Bangladesh) Catholic Bishop's Conference of Bangladesh (CBCB Introduction: Christianity in the Indian subcontinent is almost as old as Christianity in its birthplace. There is a strong tradition in south India that St. Thomas the Apostle introduced Christianity in India in 52 AD. ‘St. Thomas Christians’ there are a living proof of it. Yet, many a Muslim and Hindu in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh wrongly consider Christianity a recent phenomenon and a foreign one at that. The Advent of the Portuguese and Christianity in Bengal: Renowned Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama rounded the Cape of Good Hope of South Africa in 1498 and landed at Calicut (present Kozikode of India) by discovering the sea-route to India. From 1500 onwards, the Portuguese established their power first in Cranganore, then to Cochin and Goa. With these traders and commercial opportunists, also came Franciscan, Dominican, Augustinian, and Jesuit missionaries to bring Indian heathens to Christ. From 1517 onwards, Portuguese traders from Goa were traversing the sea-route to Bengal but were not successful in establishing trading posts in this part of India. Only in 1537, were they allowed to settle and open customs houses at Satgaon (near present-day Hooghly) of West Bengal (India) and Chittagong of present-day Bangladesh. In 1577, Mughal emperor Akbar permitted the Portuguese to build permanent settlements and churches in Bengal.

This is David Bay, Director of Old Paths Ministries. And this is the Cutting Edge , a radio program dedicated to warning and informing God's people. We are committed to the study and exposition of the inerrant, inspired and authoritative Word of God. The views expressed belong to us, and are not necessarily shared by this station. The moral bankruptcy of our society is well-documented. But, few people understand why we have become morally bankrupt. However, when we look at society through the Biblical eyes of God, we can easily see why we are facing the unprecedented troubles of today. This study of America through the eyes of God is what we will always try to do here; stay with us for some eye-opening truths. And the United States of America has the world's tallest and largest obelisk the Washington Monument. Every President from George Washington to Jimmy Carter took their oaths of office from the East side of the Capitol Building; however, on January 20, 1981, President Reagan insisted that the Inauguration Ceremony take place from the West side of the Capitol. A quick look at a map of Washington, D.C., shows that, when President Reagan addressed the crowd to give his Inaugural speech, he was facing that great obelisk, the Washington Monument. Occultists the world over clearly knew the significance. They knew that the occultic plan to produce Anti-Christ was nearing its completion; they knew that Reagan's successor was to be the President to be in power when Anti-Christ staged his appearance. President Reagan took his second oath of office from the traditional East side of the Capitol as did President Bush. The plan called for only one President to face the occultic obelisk.

The Truth About Roman Catholicism. By M. H. Reynolds
THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH is by far the largest and wealthiest of all the so-called "Christian Denominations." It has consistently claimed to be the only true Churchthe Church which was founded by Jesus Christ during His earthly ministry. In addition, especially in this generation, it has embellished its image and attracted and held members by the claim that it is the one Church which has never changed, All of these claims are false. How-ever, in recent years, the Roman Catholic Church has done a complete about-face, actually boasting of the many changes it has instituted to meet the changing needs of Catholics and non-Catholics alike in this modern age. Is the Roman Catholic Church the one true Church? Are its past and present teachings and practices Scriptural? How has the Roman Catholic Church changed through the centuries? How much has it changed in our lifetime? Have these changes been basic or superficial? Where is the Roman Catholic Church headed? The purpose of this article is to turn the spotlight of truth upon Roman Catholicism both as to its past history and present teachings. Our sincere desire is to be of help to Catholics, many of whom are well aware that, in recent years, their church has been Instituting many changes, most of which have left them confused, uncertain, and deeply troubled. For the first time in their lives, many Catholics are raising serious questions about t their Church, its leaders, its teachings and its practices. They now realize that their church is not united but divided over issues such as birth control, abortion, divorce, celibacy for

Reformation
A term covering a number of changes in Western Christianity (Europe) between the 14th and 17th centuries, resulting in the split in Christianity between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. The Reformation, widely conceived, was a reaction against the hierarchical and legalistic structures of the Papacy and the Roman Catholic Church. Reformers rallied against the Roman Catholic Church's dogmatic theology, economic and religious exploitation of the common masses, and colonialization and conquest of indigenous peoples. Most fundamentally, the Reformation challenged the Papacy's claims of divine authorization and infallibility.
One particularly well-known Catholic method of exploitation in the Middle Ages was the practice of selling indulgences, a monetary payment of penalty which, supposedly, absolved one of past sins and/or released one from purgatory after death. It was the selling of indulgences that led the Reformer Martin Luther to post his famous 95 Theses - a document challenging Roman Catholic authority in theological matters, including indulgences and many others. Luther's opposition to the selling of indulgences was not new, however. In most of the Reformation movements stress lay not upon new understandings or doctrines, but on a return to the more authentic and original excellence of tradition.
Luther, one of the main Protestant Reformers, eventually arrived at the conclusion that divine relationship and salvation come by grace through faith, not by good works, belief in dogma, or economic propitiation. One's relationship to the divine is initiated by God, and one can only participate in this relationship by remaining open to it. Therefore, Luther's theology placed him in square opposition to the Roman Catholic practice of selling indulgences.

    Roman Catholic Church, Catholicism
General Information The Roman Catholic church, the largest of the Christian churches, although present in all parts of the world, is identified as Roman because of its historical roots in Rome and because of the importance it attaches to the worldwide ministry of the bishop of Rome, the pope. Several Eastern Rite Churches , whose roots are in regional churches of the Eastern Mediterranean, are in full communion with the Roman Catholic church. In 1980 there were some 783 million Roman Catholics, approximately 18% of the world's population. The 51 million Roman Catholics in the United States (1982) constitute 22% of that country's population. These statistics are based on baptisms, usually conferred on infants, and do not necessarily imply active participation in the church's life nor full assent to its beliefs. A growing estrangement between the Catholic church in the West and the Orthodox church of the East in the first millennium led to a break between them in the 11th century, and the two regions diverged in matters of theology, liturgy, and disciplinary practices. Within Western Christianity beginning with the 16th - century Reformation, the Roman Catholic church came to be identified by its differences with the Protestant churches.

    Introduction
[1] The title of this presentation incorporates both the task assigned to me in this symposium and the content of my presentation. Mel Gibson is a self-confessed traditionalist Catholic, and the task assigned to me is to explain that contemporary traditionalist Catholicism. That explanation is the direct focus of this paper. To the extent that Gibson is a well-known traditionalist, and the son of an even better known traditionalist with bizarre and well-documented views, understanding traditionalism contributes indirectly to understanding Mel Gibson. Neither of those two understandings will permit me to make any judgment about Gibson’s film, The Passion of the Christ , which I have not seen, but they do raise and have raised questions about the film that would be very serious if verified. I will acknowledge those questions as I proceed.

    What is Eutopia?
Eutopia is a student-run journal of Catholic thought which seeks to address contemporary and controversial topics in Catholicism from a perspective that is loyal to the teaching of the Church. Eutopia is produced by graduate and undergraduate students of the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Eutopia is published three times a semester.
What does the name Eutopia mean?
Our name, Eutopia , is a play on words devised by our founding Editor, Richard L. Kent. The word "Utopia," as you know, is derived from the Greek meaning "no place" and is the title of St. Thomas More's satirical political work. Like the fictitious country in More's novel, Utopia refers to a "place of fantasy," an earthly paradise, a perfect world brought about by the power of human beings, something most people know to be a pipe dream. Striving for this illusory and rationalistic Utopia is a recurring pretension of secular liberalism, both of More's day and our own. Eu-topia , on the other hand, derives from the Greek meaning "good place." The purpose of our magazine is to do our part to improve life here; remembering however, that our ultimate goal, with the help of God's grace, is not to bring about an earthly paradise, but to achieve the Place of Goodness at the end of our lives, when at last we achieve the gates of heaven.

Billy Graham receives honorary degree from Catholic college
Billy Graham received an honorary doctorate from Catholic priests at Belmont Abbey College in 1967. He called it, "a time when Protestants and Catholics could meet together and greet each other as brothers, whereas 10 years ago they could not". He joked around, "I'm not sure but what this could start me being called "Father Graham". http://www.archden.org/noel/
Savor this story of Colorado's largest, oldest and most diverse church in terms of membership, churches, schools, foster homes and hospitals. In this first historical overview of Colorado Catholicism, you will encounter the Franciscan Friars who first explored, mapped and wrote about Colorado and lectured the Ute Indians on the evils of polygamy. Denver Catholic Register helped to transform it from a sad sheet with a handful of readers to a national network with millions of readers. While Smith made the Register the greatest success story of Colorado Catholicism, his patron John Kernan Mullen, a poor Irish miller, became the multi-millionaire angel of the archdiocese. More recently, during the 1980s, other characters have emerged, such as Father Gourley with his dramatic protests against nuclear weapons and handguns and Father Woody in a nationally televised role as the guardian angel of the homeless. Author Tom Noel moves beyond the saloons, skid row, railroads, labor unions, banks, athletics, architecture and urban history he has surveyed in past prize-winning books, to tell for the first time the story of Colorado Catholicism. Over 200 illustrations, many of them virginal, enhance this saga. Here you will find how armies of nuns toiled to build and staff hospitals, orphanages and schools for all races, colors and creeds. To the wild west, these gentle sisters brought finishing schools which transformed Colorado gals into ladies who could speak French, recite poetry, paint landscapes and compose music. In more recent decades, far fewer sisters serve Colorado, but in a far greater variety of ministries. Sister Cecilia Linenbrink started the first major Colorado literacy program. Sister Julia Benajamin's has become a streetwalker to salvage prostitutes. Sister Anna Koop founded and runs the Catholic Worker soup kitchen and casket factory.
