62. Heinrich Arnold - Homage To A Broken Man
Heinrich Arnold, son of bruderhof Communities founders Emmy and Eberhard Arnold, dedicated his life to radical Christian discipleship. This website introduces his life, thoughts, and writings.
http://www.heinricharnold.com
Johann Heinrich Arnold (1913-1982) is best known for his books, which have helped thousands to follow Christ in their daily lives, and for his pastoral care as elder of the Bruderhof community movement. As a young man, J. Heinrich Arnold refused to serve in Hitler's armed forces and was forced to flee Germany. He studied agriculture in Zurich, Switzerland, and in 1936 married Annemarie Waechter, a kindergarten teacher and fellow Bruderhof member.

63. A Photo Collection About Life In Bruderhof Communities
Photos depicting the bruderhof Communities, A Christian communal movement.
http://www.100megsfree3.com/bruderhof/
The Bruderhof as we know it today is an international movement of Christian communities. It was founded in Germany in 1920 by Eberhard Arnold and a handful of likeminded friends. The Bruderhof is not a religion; rather, it is a gathering place for people (men and women of all ages , single or married) serious about communal living in the context of the Christian faith The Bruderhof is patterned after the radical Christian communities of the sixteenth-century Anabaptists and the early Christians of the first century. Jesus' "Sermon on the Mount" forms the basis for our communal life. Bruderhof members make a life commitment to pacifism , prayer, discipleship , work and fellowship. Daily forgiveness is an integral part of Bruderhof life. member Matt Gauger died of lymphoma on June 9, 2000, at the New Meadow Run Bruderhof , a Christian community in Farmington, PA. He was twenty-two years old. Six months earlier, he had been diagnosed with the cancer, and his fellow Bruderhof members - some three thousand of them at nine communities in the US Britain , and Australia
Matt's story is the focus of a new book by Bruderhof author Daniel Hallock, Six Months to Live( Plough 2001). While it's true that cancer stories are hardly a rarity these days, this stirring account is a departure from the norm. Avoiding clichés ("Live every minute to the full." "Embrace life."), Six Months to Live instead explores the harsh reality of having to face one's mortality - and with it, the demons of uncertainty and fear. It does so with unusual intimacy and immediacy, by drawing on interviews with Matt's wife, parents, doctors, and friends, and on e-mails between Matt and others.
Most of us see the death of another person as something negative - something that unsettles us, interrupts our daily life, and throws our plans awry.

books daily inspirational quote more about the Bruderhof. Beech Grove Bruderhof Darvell Bruderhof Bruderhof here Five years ago a peace delegation passed through Beech Grove and told the children about a "garden for peace" that they had seen in Israel. The children decided they should do something for peace. Perhaps they could make a garden, too. Soon they were writing thousands of letters asking about peace. "What is peace?" "How do you think peace will come on this earth?" The letters began coming back in from people from around the world. Often a letter would inspire the Bruderhof school children to design part of the garden to represent that conflict in that part of the world. The Bruderhof students with their families and teachers began clearing the land chosen, leaving the huge beautiful beech trees standing. Each part of the Peace Garden reminds us of a need for peace. Here are just a few: A statue modeled after the one in Londonderry - two men with hands outstretched but not touching - was recreated with the hands clasped, showing how much the children long for peace in Northern Ireland. A yellow and a red rose are planted below.

Internal conflicts have led to many defections, and ex-members critical of the authoritarian leadership of the sect have formed a group called the Peregrine Foundation The Bruderhof is currently engaged in two seperate attempts to use strongarm litigation tactics to limit criticism on the net. In doing so it appears to be following the same self-destructive path as the so-called Church of Scientology , whose attempts to silence critics have simply resulted in one public relations disaster after another.

They demanded, in effect, that Bill shut down the newsgroup. We fear that sending our children, and especially our young people who have reached the age of puberty, into outside schools is like throwing lambs out to the wolves. At this age, young people are most vulnerable to evil influences. This is not a good way to test for 'dead wood.' Delphini.
Third: March to protest Death Penalty: Referring to 'The Plough' # 25 (Aug, 1990) 'Hutterites March Against Death Penalty.' What a disgrace. Surely Christians are against any kind of killing, whether by the Death Penalty or any other form, but have we ever heard of Hutterites marching with other denominations, or taking part in such activities? No! Never in Hutterite history or in biblical history. What would our forefathers say to such practices? Or Paul 2 Cor 6:13-16. How did you dare to say that you were representing the Hutterites in Canada

Contested Narratives
A Case Study of the Conflict between a New Religious Movement and its Critics
by Julius H.Rubin, Professor of Sociology
Saint Joseph CollegeWest Hartford, CT 06117
This paper was presented at the annual meetings of the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion, November 5-8, Montreal, Canada. The final version of this essay will be published in a forthcoming book Misunderstanding Cults, edited by Benjamin Zablocki and Thomas Robbins "The battle has been about free speech, and free speech is about disagreement. And so we disagree."
Salman Rushdie regarding Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's 1989 religious edict
charging blasphemy and authorizing Rushdie's death for Satanic Verses. This essay examines the strange and troubling story of how one new religious group has attempted to suppress freedom of speech for apostates and social scientists who have published critical analyses, raised troubling questions, and made serious charges about the institutional practice and individual conduct of members of this religious group. We will consider the masterful public relation efforts where this sect has manipulated the media to produce puff pieces that have supported their protected and idealized image. We will detail the strategies employed to attack and quiet the voices of apostates and academic critics, branding them as the demonic "enemies of the faith." This story reveals an irony: to protect their religious brotherhood the sect has engaged in unbrotherly actions as they oppose their critics and the organized resistance of apostates.
