Bruderhof Saving Childhood Forum
Childhood is threatened like never before. Everyone who cares about children knows that they are growing up in a hostile world. Callousness and indifference, corporate exploitation, constant pressure to excel, families in crisis, bankrupt schools, moral confusion, mind-numbing entertainment, and a poisoned environment are all robbing children of a chance to enjoy a carefree, happy childhood. You're not the only one who feels this way. This website is for anyone who believes children need and deserve time and space simply to be children, free from the pressures and influences that await them in our success-driven, image-conscious, materialistic, technological age. Several made the long trip down to Paraguay to visit the Bruderhofs there. At a July 1953 conference in Paraguay, the Bruderhof decided to start a new branch in North America. Woodcrest was purchased in June 1954, and was immediately flooded with guests and new members. Many came from Quaker and Brethren backgrounds; others were agnostics, atheists, or of other non-religious backgrounds. People from intentional communities like Koinonia, founded by Clarence Jordan, Macedonia Cooperative, Kingwood, and Celo joined Woodcrest too. The beginning of the Woodcrest was a landmark event in Bruderhof history, because the many Americans who joined brought new energy and vitality to the movement. For many years, Woodcrest was home to Emmy Arnold, who with her husband Eberhard Arnold started the first Bruderhof in Germany in 1920.

The Bruderhof: A Kindred Community
In 1920, radical Christian Eberhard Arnold founded the Bruderhof in war-torn Germany.
Today, nine Bruderhof communities - six in the eastern United States, two in England and one in Australia - are home to more than 3,000 members.
The basis of Bruderhof life is the Bible's New Testament teachings on love of neighbor, nonviolence, mutual service and faithfulness in marriage. The Bruderhof faith also encourages its members to maintain a childlike spirit.
The Bruderhof movement
is dedicated to the principle of unity. Instead of holding assets or property privately, members share everything in common.
