Plymouth Brethren
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The Plymouth Brethren is a Christian religious movement that began in Ireland and England in the late and made prominent by John Nelson Darby Dr. Edward Cronin John Bellett , and Francis Hutchinson who felt that the established Church had become too involved with the secular state and abandoned many of the basic truths of Christianity. As the movement spread, a large group of adherents assembled in Plymouth by which is why Brethren are often called by that name. The term Darbyites has also been used. In the late , a difference over the "independence" of local meetings resulted in the first division, causing a distinction to be made between the Open Brethren mainly referred to by the name Plymouth Brethren , and the Exclusive Brethren . Darby and his followers saw the split as the result of the growth of ' clericalism ' and "grave error as to Christ's persona and sufferings".

The Schwarzenau Brethren groups originated in in Schwarzenau, Germany , in the Palatinate . Early leaders included Alexander Mack, Peter Becker, and John Nass. The Brethren were at one time called Dunkers or German Baptist Brethren After enduring persecution for a time (see Anabaptist ), the Brethren migrated to North America in three separate groups from 1719 to 1733. There they established themselves at Germantown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania , and from there moved south and west along with other pioneers. The Brethren Church shares its early heritage with the Church of the Brethren but was separated in 1881, being the most progressive of the three groups resulting from this split at the time of H. R. Holsinger. The most conservative of the groups (the

Bohemian Brethren
(MORAVIAN BRETHREN, or UNITAS FRATRUM).
DEFINITION AND DOCTRINAL POSITION
"Bohemian Brethren" and "Moravian Brethren" are the current popular designation of the Unitas Fratrum founded in Bohemia in 1457, renewed by Count Zinzendorf in 1722, and still active in our own day. Placing life before creeds, the Moravian Church seeks "to exemplify the living Church of Christ constituted or regenerated men and women, while it affords a common meeting-point for Christians who apprehend dogmas variously". Personal faith in the crucified Saviour constitutes the chief foundation for the fellowship thus established. Scripture is the only rule of faith, but "nothing is posited as to the mode of inspiration, for this partakes of the mysteries which it has not pleased God to reveal". The Trinity, the Fall, Original Sin, and "Total Depravity" are admitted, but "discussion about them is shunned". The Love of God infra in regard to Zinzendorf), Baptism and the Lord's Supper as the only sacraments, and the common Christian eschatology Resurrection , Judgment, Heaven, Hell ; such are the tenets from which Moravians are expected not to depart, whilst they are allowed to speculate about them on Scriptural lines with entire liberty.

The Plymouth Brethren
The following page includes three papers written by Miles J. Stanford on the subject of the Plymouth Brethren (PBs)both the Open and Closed varieties. The Plymouth Brethren (often known throughout the world as Assemblies or Gospel Halls) are a small groups of Christians with a deep and rich history. The PBs should not be confused with any "Brethren" out of the Continental Free Church tradition, (such as the Church of the Brethren, Brethren Church, etc.), nor the Arminian Pentecostal Assemblies of God. For decades, the PBs reached out with their various needs to brother Miles Stanford by telephone and letter, yet often in pride and denial that they could be helped or ministered to by someone "outside" their Assembly system. However, it is often only an outsider who is in a position to evaluated conditions as they truly are, rather than how insiders represent them to be. Miles' burden was always that the PBs would discover the rich legacy of Pauline Dispensationalism established by the original founders of the movement. The green titles above and below are links to specific articles.

John Wessel Goesport
(GANSFORT). Luther Protestant preacher Albert Hardenberg. Protestants usually regard Wessel as a precursor of Luther . The first publication of the "Farrago rerum theologicarum" was the work of Protestants , who presented in it a collection of extracts which seemed to favour Protestantism . This judgment, maintained in modern times by Ullmann, is one-sided and exaggerates Wessel's deviations from the teaching of the Church. True his theology contains dogmatic errors, some of which were later taught by Luther . He denies the infallible office of teaching of the Church, and the infallibility of the pope and the ecumenical councils. He disputes the right of ecclesiastical superiors to give commands that bind under sin. He emphasizes too strongly the subjective activity of the faithful in sharing the fruits of Communion and of the Sacrifice of the Mass ( opus operantis ), so that the objective working of the sacrament ( opus operatum ) seems to be impaired. In the Sacrament of Penance he acknowledges the priestly absolution, but denies its judicial character. He rejects satisfaction as a part of the sacrament, holding that with the remission of sins the temporal punishment is also remitted. He regards an
