Delegates Referendum Wording Referendum on Joining the Missionary Church This is the wording of the Missionary Church referendum, as approved by the 2004 National Board. This referendum was voted on by all UB members in the United States in October 2004. It lost, receiving just 44% of the votes. Therefore, it died with the election, and won't be passed on to the 2005 National Conference. Intent Permit the 2005 US National Conference to take the various steps needed to join the UB Church, USA, with the Missionary Church, USA. Wording: I authorize the 2005 US National Conference to take all actions necessary and/or appropriate to make the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, USA, part of the Missionary Church USA (and withdraw from the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, International). Referendum on Property This is the wording of the Property referendum, as approved by the 2004 National Board. This referendum was voted on by all UB members in the United States in October 2004. It passed with an 89% "yes" vote. Therefore, it will be passed on to the 2005 National Conference, where it needs a two-thirds vote of the delegates to become official. Intent Give local congregations title to their church property, and give annual conferences title to all of their own property. The founders, largely of Anabaptist background (probably mainly Mennonite), were deeply influenced by the pietistic revival movements of the period which emphasized a crisis conversion experience, with an attendant belief in a personal, "heartfelt" relationship to God. Some of the founders received a conversion experience in the revivals, while others came to believe in what the revivals emphasized. They began to meet in their homes to discuss their experiences and to study the Bible for new insights it might give them. Their discussion led eventually to their formal organization as a separate group. As Anabaptists they were firm in their views of discipleship and of the church as the visible, called-out body of believers. But they were also convinced of the need for the crisis conversion experience. Thus they did not feel comfortable with the Anabaptist groups from which they came or with various other pietistic groups in the area. As a result, they organized themselves into a new group where the principles of baptism and pietism were combined.

Wallace Mennonite Brethren in Christ merged with Palmerston Missionary Church in 1972. The building was sold to a Markham-Waterloo Conference congregation that became known as the Brotherston Mennonite Church In 1950 there were 50 members; in 1972, 38. The congregation dissolved in 1972. It has been affiliated with the Mennonite Brethren in Christ (1875-1947), United Missionary Church (1947-69) and Missionary Church (1969-72).
