The first settlers of Yarrow arrived in February 1928 and began meeting in the homes of Mennonite Brethren and Mennonite Church families. The Mennonite Brethren organized as a separate congregation of 96 members on 3 February 1929 with Peter Dyck as the first leading minister. The congregation's first baptism was held 14 July 1929. In 1930 the church was officially accepted into the Northern District conference of the Mennonite Brethren Church, and became a founding member of the B.C. Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches in 1931. Johann A. Harder In 1931 Johann A. Harder was elected to serve as leading minister after Peter Dyck moved to Vancouver. Harder served for 18 years and was also an instrumental leader in the larger Mennonite Brethren conference. Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church (Winkler, MB)
The Winkler Mennonite Brethren congregation in Winkler, MB began services in 1884, and formally organized in 1888. The first building was occupied in 1889, with subsequent building programs in 1897, 1947, and 1988. Heinrich H.Voth and Gerhard Wiebe are considered the founding leaders of the group. The congregation originated through outreach by Mennonite Brethren among Manitoba Sommerfelder and Old Colony Mennonite groups. Winkler was the first Mennonite Brethren church organized in Canada. The first baptismal service took place May 30, 1886, when six members were received. Gerhard Wiebe, an immigrant from Russia, organized the group into a congregation. The first church building was located at Burwalde, 6 miles northwest of Winkler. It was moved to Winkler in 1897 and a new one erected shortly thereafter. In 1895 David Dyck , a minister from Colorado, became leader of the church. Affiliated stations were opened at Kronsgart and Grossweide, which developed into independent churches. In 1895

Brief History
Our story as the Boissevain Mennonite Brethren Church began in 1928 as about forty people began meeting at the Strathallen School for worship and prayer. This was a group of immigrants, many of whom fled persecution in Russia, seeking to support each other and praise God together. The shift from a rural to a town location occurred in 1944 when, due to crowded facilities, a church building was constructed at the present site in Boissevain.
