Sevilla) E-mail: aroldan@supercable.es INTRODUCCIÓN La tromboangeitis obliterante, también conocida como Enfermedad de Buerger, es una vasculopatía inflamatoria, no arteriosclerótica, oclusiva, segmentaria y recidivante que afecta a arterias y venas de mediano y pequeño tamaño de las extremidades y en raras ocasiones afecta a arterias viscerales. El primer caso se divulgó en Alemania en 1897; fue un articulo de Von Winiwarter sobre una forma extraña de endarteritis ligada a gangrena de los pies. Posteriormente Buerger en 1908, Brookline (Nueva York), la describió en 11 pacientes judios con miembros amputados, como una enfermedad en la cual los resultados patológicos característicos - inflamación y trombosis agudas de arterias y de venas – afectaban a las manos y los pies (pulsar sobre las imágenes para ampliarlas).
