Wrist Injury: Tendinitis - Musculoskeletal Disorders: Evidence for Work Accidents
FREE consultation Eight epidemiologic studies have examined physical workplace factors and their relationship to hand/wrist tendinitis. Several studies fulfill the four epidemiologic criteria that were used in this review, and appropriately address important methodologic issues. The studies generally involved populations exposed to a combination of work factors; one study assessed single work factors such as repetitive motions of the hand. We examined each of these studies, whether the findings were positive, negative, or equivocal, to evaluate the strength of work-relatedness, using causal inference. There is evidence of an association between any single factor (repetition, force, and posture) and hand/wrist tendinitis, based on currently available epidemiologic data. There is strong evidence that job tasks that require a combination of risk factors (e.g., highly repetitious, forceful hand/wrist exertions) increase risk for hand/wrist tendinitis.

Tendonitis
Tendonitis is the inflammation, irritation, and swelling of a tendon. It can occur as a result of injury, overuse, or with aging as the tendon loses elasticity. Any action that places prolonged repetitive strain on the forearm muscles can cause tendonitis. The most common symptom of tendonitis is pain, tenderness, and the increase of pain with movement. Clive, I could not lift the bales anymore. My problem was diagnosed as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I could get rid of the pain with "Oleo Mentha" (a pain killer - analgesic) which I produce, but I was looking for a permanent solution. I found it in the following formula: B6 at 75 mg 3 x per day
Zinc at 50 mg 3 x per day

Capsaicin .025% cream is another possibility. Available at pharmacies, it's approved for "post-herpetic lesions" (shingles) but is often used against arthritis. Works by exhausting the body's local supply of pain neurotransmitters. Reportedly antiinflammatory as well. It takes at least 4-5 days to have any noticeable effect, other than irritation (it's the hot principle in red pepper).

    achilles tendonitis
Achilles Tendonitis: This affliction is the curse of the running classes. Here's how to prevent it, and how to recover if you've been unlucky
Achilles tendonitis is a common injury for all athletes and fitness participants, especially those who run seriously as a sport or main fitness activity. The injury involves damage to the fibres on the Achilles tendon unit, often at the narrow point of the tendon just above the heel. This area is most at risk because it has a smaller blood supply than the rest of the tendon, and so is unable to repair itself as easily. The symptoms involves pain in the Achilles with motion, which will increase if exercise continues, tenderness to touch and often warmth and swelling to the area. Sufferers can also complain of stiffness and pain on getting up in the morning. Achilles tendonitis is a 'chronic stress' injury. The cause of the damage to the tendon is excessive forces, where lots of little stresses accumulate to overload the tendon. This is in contrast to an 'acute stress' or 'accident'-type injury, where a single large stress causes the damage, e.g., an ankle ligament sprain.

    By DR. DOUGLAS R. DIRSCHL
    UNC Health Care
Chronic pain associated with tendonitis of the shoulder, elbow, knee and foot is a very common condition. These frustrating conditions are the result of overuse associated with everyday activities and sports.
It is estimated that at least 4 million Americans each year seek treatment for symptoms of tennis elbow, one of the more common locations for chronic tendonitis. Until recently, treatment options for chronic tendonitis have been limited to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDS) such as ibuprofen, stretching exercises and avoidance of activities that can cause pain. Occasionally, injections of corticosteroids are performed and, rarely, surgical therapy is attempted - all with the goal of reducing the patient's pain to enable them to return to the activities and sports they love.
But a newer treatment for chronic tendonitis has been developed that may bring greater relief to patients with chronic tendonitis pain. Extracorporeal shock wave therapy, or ESWT, is an innovative non-surgical technique developed for the treatment of localized musculoskeletal pain.
