Equine Assisted Psychotherapy for At-Risk Youth
Reinbows At Serenity Springs is a grass roots organization that believes there is a great need for cost effective treatment for At-Risk youth and their families as an alternative to incarceration or detention. At-Risk Youth are those youth 11 through 20 years of age detained for various offenses such as theft, the use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, domestic violence, abuse, unruly charges, behavioral issues, anger management, victimization, communication and relationship issues, gang related activities, and truancy, etc. Reinbows at Serenity Springs is serving Stark and surrounding counties including Columbiana, Carroll, Holmes, Tuscarawas, and Wayne.
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is the process of using horses as a catalyst for growth and learning. In EAP activities, participants learn about themselves and others by actively planning and participating in specially designed activities with horses. Participants work with a trained equine specialist and a licensed therapist to process their feelings and behavioral patterns. The Co-facilitators are accredited and certified by Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA), a non-profit organization, which provides guidelines of standards and ethics for the industry.

Of the 16.7 million illicit drug users aged 18 or older in 2003, 12.4 million (74.3 percent) were employed either full or part time. Furthermore, research indicates that between 10 and 20 percent of the nation's workers who die on the job test positive for alcohol or other drugs. In fact, industries with the highest rates of drug use are the same as those at a high risk for occupational injuries, such as construction, mining, manufacturing and wholesale.
OSHA recognizes that impairment by drug or alcohol use can constitute an avoidable workplace hazard and that drug-free workplace programs can help improve worker safety and health and add value to American businesses. OSHA strongly supports comprehensive drug-free workforce programs, especially within certain workplace environments, such as those involving safety-sensitive duties like operating machinery.
OSHA understands that many workers with substance abuse problems can be returned safely to the workplace provided they have access to appropriate treatment, continuing care and supportive services.
