Reviewer: Greg Aleknevicus Squint is a party game in the manner of Charades or Pictionary , namely getting a group to guess an object. Whereas in Pictionary you must draw an object, in Squint you use 72 tiles that have generic shapes on them in order to form a semblance of your item. As with all these types of games play is very simple although there's a very interesting twist here. On your turn (you do not play in teams) you draw a card (which lists three objects ranging in difficulty from easy to hard) and roll a die which tells you which of the three you must try to form. You then turn over the sand timer and arrange any of the tiles hoping to form something that looks like your item. You're not allowed to make sounds but you can point to certain parts of your arrangement or "animate" the tiles so long as they remain on the table. The twist that I haven't seen in other games of this genre is that all other players are trying to guess your object. If anyone guesses correctly then both you and the guesser receive points (1 to 3 depending on the difficulty of the item). I found this little twist to very innovative as it meant that you were involved on every turn, not only when your team was "up". Involvement is a good thing and this simple change greatly increases it for everyone. The timer seems to be about 45 seconds which I initially thought too short but in practice it worked fairly well. Long enough to form fairly complex items but short enough that there's a pressure to just get something down. Play continues around the table for a set number of rounds and the player with the most points wins.

Renee Zellweger, Lord of the Squint
How do we hate Renee Zellweger? Let us count the ways. HATERATION REASON #1: The squinty eyes. Eyeballs are supposed to have visible WHITE in them. Apparently, Renee has not yet received this message. And we've seen pictures of her with her eyes actually open and un-squinted. We know she can do it. Martha: Wow, it doesn't even look like there are any eyeballs IN THERE. Amy: "GRRRR!! This is the face I make right after I've eaten an entire live chicken to put on weight for Bridget Jones movies!" Lauren: She's all, "Squint?!! I'll SHOW YOU squint!! Snap!" HATERATION REASON #2: That bizarrely puffed up mouth. It's like she's always smack in the middle of an air-kiss. An air-kiss that has been polluted by too much collagen. Or like she took smile lessons from a sadist. And, even then, got an F in class. Amy: Do you think sometimes she makes little fart noises with her mouth by accident? Martha: My god, I didn't even know that it was possible to squint one's MOUTH. Lauren: Renee Zellweger stars in "Smugness Becomes Her".

Squint @ 12:00 pm
I decided to pick up the new game "Squint" from Out of the Box this past weekend, and got to play a few games. I was reasonably pleased. The very basic idea is Pictionary-like with cards with various squiggles, circles and lines which you have to use to "draw" with. There are three difficulty levels and you determine each time which to use by a die roll. After a couple of games this way, we found the hardest ones were the most enjoyable, so we played with just those, and that works very well. Next time, I may use the variation of allowing the person who is "drawing" to do any or all of the words on the card. That way, they can go conservative and do the easier one for fewer points or the harder one, or try to get multiple one's guessed. Overall, as a party game, very solid.

The Recruit
What sort of person willingly joins the CIA? Before answering, ask yourself this: what kind of freak never tried drugs in his youth? Cuz that's the only type of person the CIA will even consider. Strange? Yeah. Sick? Sure. But true. Langley's ranks are packed with snitches, Mormons, compulsive gamblers, sadists and closet-case pole smokers. Which explains why they're so easily-penetrable and why they alwaysblow every vital assignment. If you believe THE RECRUIT's propaganda, then the CIA is none of the above. Rather, it's a magnet for sensitive, model-level geniuses, here mplayed by Colin Farrell and his female counterpart Bridget Moynihan. Just in case you're slow, they have Farrell himself spell it out to Al Pacino, the CIA recruiting agent: "All I know about the CIA is that they're fat, old white guys who fell asleep when we needed them." (Note how he can't actually say, you know, that thing that happened on that certain day when all those people got killed because someone wasn't doing their job...better not bring it up! Just make Aesopian references!) Pacino's reply, "Well, you don't know shit," is confirmed in the first scene showing the new recruits: a lecture hall full of 20-somethings so beautiful, fit and multi-ethnic you'd think they were mposing for a Benneton poster.

Artist's Description
?Wilf and Squint have been together since the late 70`s.? After being in several middle of the road bands, we teamed up as a duo.? We hit on a Cockney sounding formula and it was an immediate success, which was easy for us as we reflected on our musical instruments and?our surrounding?history?of East London.? We started our apprenticeship in local public houses and workingmen?s clubs around the East End of London.? Gradually working a large proportion of the south of England, quickly going from strength to strength becoming more and more popular.? In the late 90`s Wilf and Squint called it a day, we both went our diffrent ways, Squint carried on writting music, were Wife stayed in the lime light on stage as a tribuet band the the glam rock days, but in 2003, by popular demand we rejoind, bigger and better as ever.?

Thanks to Dan Kennedy Warner Alliance, 1993. 10 songs, 43:35. Produced by Steve Taylor. Pass the tissue. It's true, Chagall Guevara is dead. Of course, fans have known that for some time, but we know that Taylor, Perkins, and Nichols would resurface somewhere, sometime. Well, now is that timeTaylor, with his solo album, and Perkins and Nichols with Passafist. But alas, the ghost of the Chagall Guevara does not linger here. I'll try to tread lightly here because I don't believe Squint is a bad album, and I truly believe Steve Taylor has a gifta gift of satire and wit. But like most gifts, this onw has its drawbacks the chief one being that, unguarded, satire can rob stores of their soul and characters of their... character. In order for a writer ot use satire to do anything more than make us laugh, he must first develop his characters. He must make his creations believable, relatable. I submit that character development is the most important aspect of any storybe it a song, literature, or a movie. You can have an interesting, innovative plot, novel ideas, profound truth, and even witty dialog, but if your characters aren't real to the audience, who cares about what happens to them or what they have to say. Failure to recognize this is at the heart of my problem with

Zapping That Squint! Name: Pauline Nicholas Age: Condition: Squint It was very sudden. I was having my second squint operation on my right eye when I was told my mother had died. I felt numb with shock. I was only six years old. For two years, I had been wearing those awful pink NHS spectacles. They made me feel different from my normal sighted sisters - in fact rather awkward and self-conscious, and now I had no mum to console me. My father was not happy with the two squint operations so I was sent to Moorfields for further surgery. This time my inward-turning eye was successfully treated, My vision was fine until the birth of my first child. Then my old problem resurfaced again. I just tried to put it out of my mind. It was not helped when I returned to work as an admin clerk for the evening shift, graduating to full-time as the children grew older. It was a strain to look at a computer screen all day. Fluorescent lighting was irritating. So the inevitable lenses were prescribed for long sight. Within the last ten years, my eyes had deteriorated to +4.50 dioptres and +3.75 dioptres in the left and right eye respectively. Astigmatism was detected in both. I felt the whole world was peering at my right eye, the lens of which seemed to be magnified out of all proportion to my left one. They were tinted too. I began to lose confidence in my appearance, my shoulders became hunched and I tended to see through my left eye only. I dreaded every visit to the opticians, worried by my ever worsening vision. I eventually took part-time computer work again, in an effort to halt the deterioration.
