UUGHGHGHHHSSHHH!! UUGHGHGHHHSSHHH!! There's nothing worse than the sound of someone snoring if you're trying to fall asleep. Or maybe it's you who snores, and people tease you about the noise you make in your sleep. Snoring isn't just noisy. Sometimes it's a sign of a serious problem that should be treated by a doctor. Read on to find out more about the snore! Snoozing or Snoring?
Snoring is a fairly common problem that can happen to anyone - young or old. Snoring happens when a person can't move air freely through his or her nose and mouth during sleep. That annoying sound is caused by certain structures in the mouth and throat - the tongue, upper throat, soft palate (say: pa -lut), uvula (say: yoo -vyuh-luh), as well as big tonsils and adenoids - vibrating against each other. People usually find out they snore from the people who live with them. Kids may find out they snore from a brother or sister or from a friend who sleeps over. Snoring keeps other people awake and probably doesn't let the snoring person get top quality rest, either. What Makes You Snore?

For others it is even more severe, straining relationships with their partners. Get a good nights sleep with Silensor The effects can be physical as well as emotional and in a lot of case it will be both. Acute snoring can severely impact on normal sleeping patterns, causing exhaustion and a lowered immune system. Over an extended period of time, serious snorers may also develop more severe conditions such as sleep apnoea. Emotionally, snoring can severely impact on the relationships that snorers have with those around them. Many partners of snorers become resentful due to the fact that they are deprived of sleep on an ongoing basis. Here is a new system designed to help you stop snoring: the Silensor - available from your dentist. Transform

Buteyko "Breathe Easy" Jennifer Harris Buteyko Practitioner trained by Tess Graham of the Buteyko Institute of Breathing and Health Member of Buteyko Health Professionals Australia To find out about consultations for adults and children suffering from breathing related conditions such as asthma and hay fever or seeking to improve performance in singing dance or sport email me at breatheasy@pnc.com.au The purpose of these pages is to provide information on the following topics and to act as an archive for Jennifer's written articles which are published in newspapers such as "The Blue Mountains Gazette" and local school magazines. I personally do NOT recommend the use of any home video course. Regular consultation with a qualified practitioner is vital for your successful recovery because the breathing exercises are tailored to each individual. I have recently incorporated the discipline of Pilates with my studies of Buteyko and have developed a unique stretch/breathing program. I call this new method, Buteykolates. For more information on this, see my articles "BUTEYKOLATES ?" and "BUTEYKOLATES A HIT !" below.

SNORING INFORMATION
Updated January 29, 1999 Under construction Sleep Apnea and CPAP Oral/Dental Devices Surgery Articles What is Snoring? I'm sure just about everyone is somewhat familiar with snoring . You probably know at least one person who snores. It could be your bed partner, your parents, grandparents, even Uncle Ned or Aunt Sophie who may snore at various sound levels. Some laugh and make jokes about it, but it can be a symptom of a serious disorder called obstructive sleep apnea . And if it is obstructive sleep apnea, then it is no laughing matter, and that individual needs to get evaluated by a sleep specialist. Information on apnea is available at the above link. Snoring is a noise produced when an individual breathes (usually produced when breathing in) during sleep which in turn causes vibration of the soft palate and uvula (that thing that hangs down in the back of the throat). The word "apnea" means the abscence of breathing. All snorers have incomplete obstruction ( a block) of the upper airway. Many habitual snorers have complete episodes of upper airway obstruction where the airway is completly blocked for a period of time, usually 10 seconds or longer. This silence is usually followed by snorts and gasps as the individual fights to take a breath. When an individual snores so loudly that it disturbs others, obstructive sleep apnea is almost certain to be present.

Recent Snoring - the Basics Snoring disrupts your sleep and the sleep of anyone who is in the same room (or even house) as you. Snoring may also be a warning that the sleeper is a victim of sleep apnea. Is Snoring a Problem? If your snoring is a problem, and if you don't have severe sleep apnea, then an easy to use, inexpensive oral device might solve your problems. The Hyperactive Snorer News this past week announced that a link has been found between kids with ADD (Attention Deficit Syndrome) and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Syndrome) and snoring. Women Who Snore An estimated 19% of women snore, and are just as prone to developing snoring related complications as are men.

Study links snoring to hypertension
April 11, 2000 Web posted at: 4:14 p.m. EDT (2014 GMT) From staff reports NEW YORK (CNN) Snoring may contribute to high-blood pressure, according to a new study. Researchers studied sleep and cardiovascular information on 6,132 people who were at least 40 years old. Suspension of breathing often while snoring induces stress, and stress increases the risk of hypertension, researchers said.
