PJ
July 23, 1995 - Oct. 3, 1995
We were blessed on Sunday, July the 23rd at 8:14 P.M. With the arrival of our third child, weighing in at 8lbs, 3oz. and 20 inches long. He came into this world three weeks ahead of schedule. He was given a clean bill of health, a fine healthy baby boy. The apple of his parents eyes.
Yes we thought we were a complete family. With two healthy girls and now a little boy. Our dreams were all finally coming true,
so we thought. We named this little
boy after his daddy, James Alan and his grandpa Pete. Our little boy was given the name of Peter James-Alan Buth. With the nickname of PJ.
We all adjusted to the routine of having a new baby in the house. It wasn't easy to do with a very active two year old running around, but somehow we managed. Before we knew it our little boy was 6 weeks old, and it was getting time for mommy to return to work. Sunday the 3rd of September we held PJ's dedication. My last weekend with my son before I had to return back to work. I loved the time off, but I knew there was no way we could pay our bills unless I returned to work. One of the good things about returning to work, was that my husband and I work different shifts so we shared the child care needs. We didn't have to worry about child care expenses. Everything seemed to be adjusting to fit with everyone's schedule. I went to work during the day and came home to my children at night.

... Donations Thank you for visiting the Sleeping Angels Fund. We are a program helping to provide familes touched by infant death with grave markers/monuments.
Many families do not have adequate life insurance to cover such cost and need help in their time of grief. Grave markers can range from $350 to $3,000 depending on size, shape, color, and inscription. The Sleeping Angels Fund believes that every child deserves and needs to be remembered so we will do what we can to help memorialize these precious Angels.
If you would like to help us help these families please make a donation. All donations are tax dedutable and will help us with our cause.
We also hold fundraisers throughtout the year and if a monetary donation is not possible any kind of gift for us to raffle during a fundraiser would be greatly appreciated as well. For more information on donations please follow the donation link for instructions. Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy (MSP)
Munchausen's Syndrome refers to a psychiatric disorder where patients pretend to have illnesses, and therefore are subjected to many medical tests and surgical procedures. Of course, these would never have been performed if the patient had not tried to fabricate them. However, the most notorious patients have often had dozens of surgical procedures for factitious (false) symptoms. Thus, this is a form of self-mutilation. Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy (MSP) is a parenting disorder where parents, usually the mother, fabricate symptoms in their children, thus subjecting the child to unnecessary medical tests and/or surgical procedures. In some cases, the parents also inflict injury and can kill their children in the process. MSP is not rare in Apnea Programs. Apnea is the perfect disorder for MSP, because infants appear normal between episodes. Therefore, a parent can bring her baby to a medical facility, fabricate a history of an apparent life threatening event, and the baby will be admitted, many tests performed, sometimes even surgery (such as tracheostomomies) are performed. MSP parents can be quite good at this, often switching from doctor to doctor so that it is difficult for one individual to put it all together. There have been documented cases of MSP in apnea clinics. However, these are much rare than "true" infant apnea.

160. Definition, Description, And Prevention Of SIDS Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
Safe bedding recommendations for sids prevention by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development
http://www.all4moms.com/articles/SIDS_prevention.htm
What is SIDS?
SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, is defined as the sudden, unexpected and unexplained death of any infant or young child. When surveyed about what they would have appreciated in those chilling moments after the death, SIDS parents responded with several concrete requests they were often too stunned to make at the time (Journal of Emergency Medicine, Sep 1997):
To hold their baby one last time
To have the clothing returned to them
To have a print or mold of their baby's hand
To have a lock of hair.
These poignant requests underline the tragedy of SIDS, the most common cause of infant death in developed countries. SIDS accounts for about half of the deaths that occur between one month and one year of age.
Can SIDS be prevented?
There are already several important preventive measures available. Events that occur even before the baby is born affect the risk of SIDS. Anything that causes less oxygen to get to the baby in the uterus will increase his or her risk. On average, smoking during pregnancy as well as using drugs of abuse such as cocaine or heroine. The media often focus on "crack babies," but tobacco use continues in approximately 25% of all pregnancies in the United States (J Pharmacol Exp Ther, Jun 1998). Nicotine exposure is responsible for many more SIDS deaths than any other drug of abuse, including cocaine. Stopping smoking during pregnancy is the most immediate step we can take to save infants' lives.
