Many more children die of SIDS in a year than all who die of cancer, heart disease, pneumonia, child abuse, AIDS, cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy combined. SIDS remains the leading cause of death in the United States among infants between 1 month and 1 year of age and second only to congenital anomalies as the leading overall cause of death for all infants less than 1 year of age. Babies are not supposed to die. I took a much needed break at the end of April and realized that I couldn't continue at the pace I had. My family and my health need to take priority. This doesn't mean that I no longer care, I do, but reality is that I am just one person, and I figure it's about time I acted like that instead of trying to do the job of about 10 people. June's issue of HOPE still hasn't been finished and I've decided that I'm not going to continue with HOPE at this time. I will complete June's issue as soon as I possibly can, but am taking at least the rest of the summer to just enjoy time with my family. Hopefully I'll be able to continue on with HOPE in the fall once the kids are all back in school again. Thanks so much for all the notes of encouragement I've been receiving. Ich habe die vergangen 5 1/2 Jahre (ein gutes Fünftel meines Lebens) damit zugebracht, eine Verantwortung zu tragen, die nicht die meine ist. Und für die vergangenen Jahre war das richtig und gut für mich - es war mir ein Bedürfnis, Infos zu sammeln, Aufklärung zu betreiben, diese Seiten zu pflegen und das Thema SIDS zu ent-tabuisieren, es zu einem "normalen", wenn auch mit Angst besetztem, Thema zu machen. SIDS ist unwiderruflich in den Köpfen der meisten Mütter ein Thema und das ist gut so.
