The Shingle Ripper was invented in Minnesota (1970) and used with unparalleled success for tearing off sometimes five layers of material with ice built up between. Because of the Ripper's prying power, it has been used in many other applications, such as: removing old tile, leveling heavy appliances, tearing apart old lumber, in remodeling, ripping up old flooring, etc. With just a push down and pry up motion, a force of over 600 lbs will pull nails and material clean. No need to go over again to pull or pound down nails.

Chickenpox (varicella) and shingles (herpes zoster) are distinct diseases caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV). The VZV is a herpesvirus. Chickenpox is a highly contagious rash that usually occurs in childhood. It is the manifestation of a primary infection. Shingles is usually a localized, unilateral (occurs on one side of the body) eruption that follows a linear pattern along a nerve. Shingles is a reactivation of a dormant varicella-zoster virus. Causes Approximately 90% of chickenpox cases occur in children under 10 years of age. The infection is usually transmitted by airborne droplets containing the virus. Less often, the virus is spread by direct contact with the blisters. After exposure, the typical incubation period is 2 weeks. One is contagious a couple of days before the rash appears. Rarely, chickenpox is transmitted through the blood of an infected mother to a fetus. Shingles cannot be acquired from another person. Shingles is caused by reactivation of the dormant virus. While shingles can occur at any age, more than two-thirds of cases occur in people over 50 years of age. Shingles is 20 to 100 times more common in immune compromised individuals, such as

The homeowner chose architectural shingles, which cost considerably more than basic three-tab shingles, but which have a longer life and a more interesting, textured appearance. The first thing we installed was the starter strip, which is just a backing for the first visible row of shingles (it prevents water from getting through to the roof at the gaps between shingles, and at the notches between tabs).

This can be seen in Part 1 Starting With A Clean Slate: We completed the OSB on the larger roof face. Next the drip edge was installed, also running up the side edge (known as the "rake") as far as we could reach. The lowest part was covered with Ice and Water Shield, and the felt was fastened over top.

Shingles (Herpes Zoster)
Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, gets its name from both Latin and French words for belt, or girdle, and refers to girdle-like skin eruptions on the trunk.
Anyone who's had chicken pox can develop this eruption. The reason is that the same virus that causes chicken pox causes zoster. The virus remains in a dormant state in certain nerve cells of the body and then reactivates, causing zoster. About 20 percent of the population is affected at some time during their lives.
What prompts the virus to "awaken" and cause problems in normal, healthy people is not clear. Most physicians believe there is a temporary weakness in the body's ability to fight off disease. This allows the virus to start reproducing and move along nerve fibers toward the skin. The fact that the disease occurs more often in people older than age 50 (although children can get it, too) supports this since the immune response is believed to be weaker in older people. Trauma or possibly stress may also trigger a zoster attack.
People whose ability to ward off disease is weakened are more prone to develop zoster. They are also more likely to have a serious form of it. This includes some people with cancer, such as leukemia or lymphoma, or who have undergone chemotherapy or radiation therapy for cancer. People who have had organ transplants and are taking drugs to ward off transplant rejection may also be more susceptible, as well as those with diseases that affect the immune system, such as AIDS. The majority of people who develop zoster, however, are otherwise healthy.

Facts About Chickenpox and Shingles For Adults
What is chickenpox?
Chickenpox, also known as varicella, is a very contagious disease caused by the varicella virus. It is spread easily through the air by infected people when they sneeze or cough. The disease also spreads through contact with an infected person's chickenpox blisters. People who have never had chickenpox can get infected just by being in a room with someone who has the disease. Symptoms of Chickenpox
Early symptoms may include achiness, fever, fatigue, irritability and sore throat. An itchy, blistering rash then appears which can develop into as many as 250-500 blisters. The rash may even spread into the mouth or other internal parts of the body. In people who have been infected, symptoms appear between 10 and 21 days after exposure to the varicella virus. What is Shingles?
Some people who have had chickenpox may develop shingles later in life. Shingles, or zoster, is a common illness that may strike 1 in 5 Americans. It is caused by a reactivation of the same varicella virus that causes chickenpox. Shingles is associated with normal aging and with anything that weakens the immune system such as certain medications, cancers, infections or inborn disorders. Symptoms of Shingles
A painful, blistering rash tends to occur on one side of the body, usually on the trunk or face. There may be pain, numbness or tingling of the area 2-4 days before the rash appears. Pain or numbness can persist, sometimes for as long as a year, after the rash is gone. Damage can occur to the eyes or other organs if involved during a shingles outbreak.

All homeowners know that proper roofing is the best protection for a house. However, knowing when to replace a roof and with what type of roofing material is often a difficult decision. Roofing shingles come in many styles and are made of many different materials. There are also available from roofing suppliers different roofing systems such as steel roofing, copper roofing, slate roofing and composite roofing systems. Many homeowners choose metal roofing which provides excellent long lasting protection or slate roofing which provides a pleasing aesthetic appearance. Most homes today have modern asphalt shingles that come in many varieties that provide different looks in the form of architectural shingles. All of these roofing concepts must provide an environment that sheds water quickly and efficiently from the structure. Knowing when to install a new roof or to begin a roofing repair is important information. If your asphalt shingles are brittle looking or curled at the edges you will be faced with stripping the old shingles and replacing them with new shingles or other roofing material. If the shingles are in good shape an "overlay" with new material may be all that is needed. If your roof is leaking that calls for immediate action and contact with a qualified roofing contractor or a representative from a roofing manufacturer. Here you can get a good understanding of the roofing cost and the benefits of the different roofing systems and options available. Gaining a strong understanding of roofing products and where you can obtain the proper roofing supplies will be important.

What is shingles? Shingles is a localized infection due to the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. It occurs only in people who have had chickenpox in the past and represents a reactivation of the dormant varicella virus. Why the virus reactivates in some individuals and not in others is unknown. Shingles: An Explanation
Q:
My wife has been going through a very frustrating and, at times, very painful problem for over a month since first being diagnosed with shingles. She had a doctor's prescription covering the first week of shingles. Since then, the skin eruptions under her right breast and around to her back have dried out, but the redness still appears. She has been treating the areas with zinc oxide, an ice pack and a lotion called Sarna, which has given her some relief from itching and other discomforts. I know shingles is a virus that affects the nerves, but I'm surprised at how little information is readily available for help. Could you please explain this disease? A: Shingles, known medically as herpes zoster, is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same one that causes chickenpox in children. The virus remains dormant in the nerves for years, but gets reactivated in about 20% of the general population at some time later in life. About 70% of cases occur in people over the age of 50, and up to 50% of people who live to be 80 will experience shingles. All races and genders are affected equally by shingles that can occur at any season or time of the year.

No one knows Western Red Cedar like WFP Cedar.
WFP Cedar is a manufacturer and distributor of cedar lumber products, recognized by major builders and architects throughout the United States as the cedar experts, with more knowledge about high quality Western Red Cedar products than any other suppliers.
We purchase Western Red Cedar direct from the mills in British Columbia for each of our three factory-finishing locations in Illinois, North Carolina and Florida. We stock more than a million board feet of product, which is more cedar board than many northwestern mills.
Why Buy Your pre-stained cedar siding from WFP Cedar?
We offer a better product, because of better quality control. All orders are hand selected for uniform size, and re-graded as either clear or select knotty cedar. We purchase our cedar green, and air dry it before staining. We never kiln dry our cedar just to speed up the process.
We'll match any color to your specifications, using only the highest quality coating to assure complete coverage and proper protection. WFP Cedar is one of only a few certified pre-stainers of both Olympic and Cabot, the industry leaders in factory-finish coatings.
We'll custom-package your order in climate controlled conditions and ship it directly to your job site, with all the boards, trim and accessories required to complete the entire project.
