The Truth about Condoms
Condoms are a barrier method of contraception that, when used consistently and correctly, can prevent pregnancy by blocking the passage of semen into the vaginal canal. Condoms can also prevent the exchange of blood, semen, and vaginal secretions, which are the primary routes of STD transmission. In recent years, as a result of misinformation and insufficient research, the efficacy of condoms, especially in terms of STD prevention, has been debated in many forums. Research continues to show that condoms are one of the best methods of preventing unwanted pregnancy and are one of the only methods for sexually active individuals to protect themselves against STDs, including HIV. This updated Fact Sheet includes information on both the male and female condom; on their effectiveness in protecting against unplanned pregnancies and STDs, including HIV; and on condom breakage and slippage, regulations and tests, and consistent and correct use. This Fact Sheet is designed to provide the most recent information about condoms and to clear up confusion and misunderstandings. MALE CONDOM The male condom is a barrier method of contraception that is placed over the glans and shaft of the penis. Male condoms are available in latex, lambskin, and polyurethane.

Men and women are different from the get-go. The genetic (chromosomal) differentiator of an embryo, a pair of sex chromosomes, can be either XX or XY. Males result from the XY configuration. The differentiation of the primitive gonads are genetically determined. In a genetically male embryo, the primitive gonads begin to develop into testicles during the 7th and 8th week of gestation when placental gonadotropic hormones cause the differentiation of the center portion of the gonad while the outer portion regresses. Most of the symptoms of STDs can be found either on the genitals or in and around the mouth. Our STD pages will give you more information about symptoms.
Who can I talk to?
It may help you to talk to an adult - perhaps a parent, school nurse or teacher may be able to advise you where you can have a test. Or you could ask your family doctor. There are details of helplines and testing centres on our help and advice
Will they tell my parents? Most (but not all) clinics have a confidentiality policy, and will not tell anyone, although some places will want you to bring a parent to give consent. You can phone the clinic before you go and find out.
What will they do?
If you think that you may already have passed on the infection to someone else, it is important that you tell them so that they can have a test, too. If the clinic gives you antibiotics or medication, make sure that you follow the instructions and complete the course of treatment - otherwise the STD may come back.
So how can I protect myself?

From Our Sponsors The microbes that cause sexually transmitted diseases are equal opportunity bugs. They don't care if you are white or black, rich or poor, educated or illiterate, happy or sad. If you're a warm body, you'll do. STD germs settle in an estimated 12 million Americans each year. Worldwide, they find 250 million new hosts a year. [More] Here are a few basic facts everyone should know for his or her own protection:
  • STDs are easily spread through any person-to-person transfer of bodily fluids such as semen, vaginal secretions, or blood. When someone has a sexually transmitted disease, anyone who has sex with that person stands a good chance of becoming infected. Thus, having sex with multiple partners carries a greater risk of disease than staying faithful to a spouse or long-term partner. Even a monogamous relationship isn't necessarily risk-free, however, since one partner could be carrying an infection picked up during a prior sexual encounter. Many sexually transmitted diseases are highly contagious. For example, if a man has gonorrhea, a woman who has sex with him just once stands an 80 to 90 percent chance of getting infected. If the man has gonorrhea plus chlamydia, as frequently happens, the woman could be infected with both diseases at the same time.

Sexually-transmitted infection
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
(Redirected from Sexually transmitted disease Sexually-transmitted infections STIs ), sometimes also known as sexually-transmitted diseases STDs ), are diseases that are commonly transmitted between partners through some form of sexual activity, most commonly vaginal intercourse oral sex , or anal sex . They were commonly known as venereal diseases VD Venere is the Italian name of Venus , the Roman goddess of love ) until some time around , when public health officials introduced the new term in an effort to improve the clarity of their warnings to the public. However, just because STD and STI are often used interchangeably, it does not mean that they are the exactly the same thing. As quoted from http://www.etharc.org Sometimes the terms STI and STD are used interchangeably. This can be confusing and not always accurate, so it helps first to understand the difference between infection and disease. Infection simply means that a germ – virus, bacteria, or parasite – that can cause disease or sickness is present inside a person’s body. An infected person does not necessarily have any symptoms or signs that the virus or bacteria is actually hurting their body (they do not necessarily feel sick). A disease means that the infection is actually causing the infected person to feel sick, or to notice something is wrong. For this reason, the term STI – which refers to infection with any germ that can cause an STD, even if the infected person has no symptoms – is a much broader term than STD.
