Rosacea
What is rosacea?
Rosacea is a skin disease that affects the middle third of the face, causing persistent redness over the areas of the face and nose that normally blush mainly the forehead, the chin and the lower half of the nose. The tiny blood vessels in these areas enlarge (dilate) and become more visible through the skin, appearing like tiny red lines (called telangiectasias). Pimples can occur in rosacea that resemble teenage acne. In fact, rosacea is frequently mistaken for acne and is also referred to as acne rosacea. Is rosacea like acne?
Rosacea is basically different than acne. Unlike common acne, rosacea is not primarily a plague of teenagers, but occurs most often in adults (ages 30 to 50), especially those with fair skin. Different than acne, there are no blackheads or whiteheads in rosacea. Rosacea strikes both sexes. It tends to be more frequent in women but more severe in men.

Testimonials I have been using Elicina for about 3 weeks and have seen a dramatic change in the appearance of my skin. I use it mainly for old acne scars. I have had acne since I was twelve and used Accutane® which helped but the acne scars have been there for twenty years. Until now, I have found a miracle cream that reduces the pock marks, pitts, ice pick scars, and evens my skin tone. I know the process maybe slow for older scars but what can you expect from a product made from snails. Ha!ha! I will continue to use Elicina as my skin gets better everyday. Patrick Chua. CA, USA. Order ID# 316167 I have had outstanding results from this product. I had bad acne for many, many years. After I started using Elicina, my face totally cleared up and in using it everyday I do not break out anymore. I have had numerous compliments on my skin from people who knew what my skin looked like before this acne treatment. Jeanette Arredondo. California, USA. This is my second order and I've already seen a noticeable flattening of my keloids. I'm hoping with continued use, I will see more improvement. Derrick Butts. Delaware.

R osacea is a common, but often overlooked, skin condition that can lead to significant facial disfigurement, emotional suffering, and serious ocular complications if left untreated. Little is known about the epidemiology of rosacea, but the condition most frequently occurs in persons between 30 and 50 years of age and in fair-skinned persons of northern European descent. Studies have shown that women are affected about two to three times more frequently than men. Rosacea may be underdiagnosed because patients may not discuss the symptoms with their physician and because some physicians may not recognize the disorder. Rosacea may be overlooked in nonwhites because of a low index of suspicion or because skin pigmentation results in an atypical presentation.

Rosacea
Rosacea, or acne rosacea, is a skin disorder leading to redness and pimples on the nose, forehead, cheekbones, and chin. The inflamed pimples and redness of rosacea can look a great deal like acne, but blackheads are almost never present. It is a fairly common disorder with about one in every twenty Americans is afflicted with it. Rosacea is most common in white women between the ages of 30 and 60. When it occurs in men, it tends to be more severe and may eventually cause the nose to become red and enlarged (rhinophyma). Fair-skinned individuals and people who flush easily seem to be more susceptible to this condition.
Rosacea becomes progressively worse in many of those affected. The real cause of rosacea is now thought to be a tendency to flush and blush in a person with sun damage. Sun damages the supporting fibers of the small blood vessels just under the surface of the skin, allowing the vessels to stretch out (become permanently dilated). The damaged blood vessels leak fluid when flushing occurs, resulting in blotchy red areas. Swelling occurs, but is not usually so prominent to be very visible. The first sign most people see are small red pimples and pustules (pus-filled whiteheads). The redness can come and go and may be tender, inflamed and sensitive to the touch. Later, the skin tissue can swell and thicken. Eventually the redness and swelling can become permanent.
Eventually the capillaries become visible through the skin's surface; these are called telangiectasis. They often start on the sides of the nose. In a fair, delicate skin predisposed to rosacea, anything that makes one flush will promote rosacea and telangiectasis. A person's lifestyle and habits can be the skin's worst enemy. The more blood vessels one has near the surface of the skin, the more one is likely to flush and stay flushed

What are the symptoms? Who gets it? Diagnosis and treatment Further help
What are the symptoms?
Red flushing of the face occurs and the skin can feel itchy and as though it's burning. Small white and yellow pimples may appear in the affected skin. Sometimes these become pustules. Over time the rash may become permanent leaving the skin red. When the nose is affected, particularly in older men, the skin becomes thickened, swollen, and purple in colour, and this is called rhinophyma.
Who gets it?
Up to one in ten people may have rosacea. Although it may appear for the first time at any age, it more commonly appears between the age of 30 and 55, with women more often affected than men. It can run in families.
Diagnosis and treatment
It's not possible to prevent rosacea occuring in the first place, however, those affected are advised to avoid common triggers. This is a necessity to avoid flare-ups. These include hot food and drink, alcohol, spicy foods, caffeine, temperature changes, exposure to the sun or wind, and stress. When flare-ups occur they can be successfully treated with topical antibiotics. Other treatments may be used in more severe rosacea. Surgery or laser treatment can be used to treat rhinophyma. Although it's difficult to predict how long rosacea will last in time it does disappear.

Rosacea is a disorder of the follicles and surrounding skin that usually occurs on the forehead, nose, and chin. It involves reddening, acnelike lesions, and broken blood vessels. Rosacea improves and worsens in unpredictable cycles. The exact cause is unknown. Causes and Risk Factors Although rosacea can appear at any age, it is most prevalent between 30 and 60 years old. It occurs about equally in men and women, although severe cases are more common in men. Rosacea seems to have a genetic component. Individuals whose family members have rosacea have a higher incidence of the disorder. Emotional and physical stress, windy conditions, heat, and sun exposure can exacerbate rosacea. Dietary triggers include dairy products, certain spices, hot liquids, and alcohol.

Treating Rosacea
What can be done to treat rosacea.
Do your cheeks and face flush easily by certain foods and/or environments, which takes longer than usual to return to its normal color? Do your friends or family members always seem to have a red nose and/or cheeks or seem to “blush” rather easily? The above signs could be the acne-like condition called Rosacea. Sometimes referred to as “adult acne,” Rosacea (pronounced rose-ay-shah) affects as many as 13 million people in the United States. Do you think you may have Rosacea or know someone else who does? If so, the following article will describe exactly what this condition is, what it looks like and how to live with the disease. A Brief Definition Since the exact cause of Rosacea is still unknown perhaps the best prevention may be to avoid several factors, which are proven to aggravate or cause it to worsen. Avoid drinking alcohol (which causes flushing and redness), heat, strenuous exercise, direct sunlight, wind, cold, hot drinks, spicy foods, emotional stress, coughing, and irritating skin cleansers or moisturizers. Every person is different and some people may not have as severe of a reaction to certain stimuli while others may suffer tremendously. It has been suggested that a person maintain a journal with the date of the episode flush and any corresponding “trigger,” such as overexposure to the sun, spicy food, etc. This condition can get worse the longer you have it, especially if you don’t seek treatment.

Rosacea: An Introduction
Rosacea is a vascular, inflammatory skin disorder that affects approximately 5% of the population and is characterized by frequent periods of facial redness or flushing caused by over-active capillaries. Rosacea is not sensitive skin. Over time, this chronic state of skin inflammation gives rise to a variety of rosacea symptoms Physicians and professionals in the field of skin care are seeing rapidly increasing numbers of individuals affected by Rosacea as the "over 40" population continues to grow and as the distinction between Acne and Rosacea is clarified by an increasing number of specialists. The number of younger people with rosacea is also growing. Description
Rosacea is considered an adult variant of acne. The distinguishing feature is the background red flush commonly seen on the nose and cheeks, less commonly the chin and forehead. The acne component is usually papulo-pustular rather than whiteheads and blackheads. Small networks of blood vessels may gradually appear on the nose and cheeks. Rosacea naturally waxes and wanes. Hot liquids, alcohol, sun and certain vasodilating drugs aggravate the natural tendency to flush. Treatment should include avoidance of triggers. The most effective medicines have been topical metronidazole cream or gel (several formulations are available) and oral tetracycline. Other acne medicines may be tried as well.
