A source of information about relief from arthritis pain including Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. A nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug, product information is provided.
http://www.celebrex.com/
var primaryNav = ""; var secondaryNav = "";
CELEBREX is an important treatment option for patients in search of pain relief. It was designed to target the source of pain. Over 29 million people and their doctors have turned to CELEBREX. It is a well-studied pain medicine with over 10 years of clinical trials and 6 years of patient usage. For more information about CELEBREX, please see the Medication Guide and the full Prescribing Information , including a boxed WARNING. What is CELEBREX used for?
CELEBREX is approved to relieve the pain, swelling and stiffness of osteoarthritis and adult rheumatoid arthritis. It is also used to treat acute pain in adults (such as from strains and sprains or after surgery) and primary dysmennhorea (painful menstrual cramps). CELEBREX has also recently been approved for the relief of signs and symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis (AS), a potentially severe form of arthritis. What is ankylosing spondylitis?
Ankylosing spondylitis (AS), which affects over 400,000 Americans, is a painful form of arthritis that primarily affects the spine. Unlike other forms of arthritis that typically affect older adults, AS usually strikes young adults. Approximately as common as rheumatoid arthritis, AS can also cause inflammation, pain and stiffness in the shoulders, knees, hips, ribs and feet. Back to Top What makes CELEBREX different from other pain relievers?

62. A Biologic Alternative To Help Treat The Pain And Swelling Symptoms Associated W
Patient and physician information for this medication, which is used to relieve pain and swelling caused by rheumatoid arthritis.
http://www.kineretrx.com/
Kineret (anakinra) is indicated for the reduction in signs and symptoms and slowing the progression of structural damage in moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis, in patients 18 years of age or older who have failed 1 or more disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs). Kineret can be used alone or in combination with DMARDs other than tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blocking agents.
In clinical trials, there was a risk of serious infections (2% in Kineret patients vs. less than 1% in placebo patients). Kineret should be discontinued if a patient develops an infection, however most patients can continue taking Kineret after their infection resolves. Kineret should not be used with TNF-blocking agents such as etanercept, adalimumab, and infliximab. A 7% rate of serious infections was observed in a 24-week study of concurrent administration of Kineret and etanercept. Kineret is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to E coli -derived proteins, Kineret , or any components of the product. The most common side effect in clinical trials was injection site reaction, which was usually mild and characterized by redness, swelling, and pain.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Overview
  • The inflammation in the joints causes pain, stiffness, and swelling as well as many other symptoms.
The inflammation often affects other organs and systems of the body.
If the inflammation is not slowed or stopped, it can damage the affected joints and other tissues. The immune system produces specialized cells and chemicals, which are released into the bloodstream and begin to attack body tissues.
This response causes abnormal growth and inflammation in the synovium, the membrane that lines the joint. This process is called synovitis and is the hallmark of an inflammatory arthritis such as RA.
As the synovitis expands inside and outside of the joint, it can damage the bone and cartilage of the joint and the surrounding tissues, such as ligaments, tendons, nerves, and blood vessels.
RA most often affects the smaller joints, such as those of the hands and/or feet, wrists, elbows, knees, and/or ankles. The symptoms often lead to significant discomfort and disability.
  • Many people with RA have difficulty carrying out normal activities of daily living, such as standing, walking, dressing, washing, using the toilet, preparing food, and carrying out household chores.

In some respects, this reaction is similar to an allergy, in which the body often reacts with a runny nose and itchy eyes. In rheumatoid arthritis, the autoimmune response can lead to permanent, painful changes in the joints. The joints are the intersections of two bones. The ends of the bones are covered with cartilage (a smooth, durable substance) that allows bones to glide over each other with minimal friction. Cartilage also acts as a cushioning device to absorb forces. A structure called the

The Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics (WTCHG) was established in 1994 to undertake research into the genetic basis of common diseases. Since June 2000 the Centre has been located in the Henry Wellcome Building of Genomic Medicine, University of Oxford. The scientific objective of the Centre is to explore all aspects of the genetic susceptibility of disease including the localisation of genes involved in common diseases, characterisation of the variants responsible for susceptibility, the understanding of how these DNA variants may contribute to risk of disease in the population and finally, how such genetic factors contribute biologically to a disease process. The Centre houses multi-disciplinary research teams in human genetics, functional genomics, bioinformatics, statistical genetics and structural biology.

New drugs shown to lessen effects of rheumatoid arthritis
ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) Two new drugs can halt the progression of rheumatoid arthritis and lessen damage to the joints, according to two studies appearing Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine. "This is the first time we have evidence that a drug can actually lessen joint damage in rheumatoid arthritis," said Dr. John Klippel of the Arthritis Foundation. "It hasn't been clear that drugs can do this."
