Hey! What, more specifically, was wrong with your eyes? Any white fog around the edges of your vision, flashing white spots, floaters, light sensitivity, trouble concentrating/remembering, blurs around alarm clocks at night, sometimes seeing clearly further than others? I was just diagnosed with PCOS, and I don't know if I might have something else that would explain my eyes, but the endocrinologist just said he's not an eye doctor (really?!) and a month before the opthamologist couldn't identify any problems (so I'm thinking it isn't my eyes with the actual problem). THANKS! Flori

Specialty Definition: PSEUDOTUMOR CEREBRI
Domain Definition
Health
A condition marked by raised intracranial pressure and characterized clinically by headaches; nausea; papilledema, peripheral constriction of the visual fields, transient visual obscurations, and pulsatile tinnitus. Obesity is frequently associated with this condition, which primarily affects women between 20 and 44 years of age. Chronic papilledema may lead to optic nerve injury (optic nerve diseases) and visual loss (blindness). ( references Source: compiled by the editor from various references ; see credits. Top
Specialty Definition: Pseudotumor cerebri
(From Wikipedia , the free Encyclopedia) Pseudotumor cerebri (benign intracranial hypertension or false brain tumor) is a neurologic disease that is caused by increased pressure within the brain. It affects most commonly women between ages 20 and 50. Symptoms are headache, nausea and vomiting. The name of the disease comes from the fact that these symptoms are also frequently observed in patients with brain tumor. The reason is the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain for unknown reasons. Pressure may be decreased by repeated spinal taps (to remove excessive cerebrospinal fluid), steroids or drugs that reduce cerebrospinal fluid production. In advanced stages of the disease the increased pressure may affect the optic nerves and thus cause double vision or loss of vision. Pseudotumor cerebri
Definition: A benign process affecting the brain which appears to be, but is not a tumor. It is characterized by increased intracranial pressure and normal brain ventricle size. There is no evidence of tumor, infection, blocked drainage of the fluid surrounding the brain or any other cause.
Alternative Names: Idiopathic intracranial hypertension; Benign intracranial hypertension
Causes, incidence, and risk factors: The major symptoms of pseudotumor are increased pressure within the skull ( increased intracranial pressure ICP ). The cause for the condition itself is unknown, and the diagnosis is made when other health conditions are ruled out. The mechanism causing the elevated ICP is not well understood. Possible causes of pseudotumor cerebri include a defect in Cerebral Spinal Fluid (CSF) absorption, increased cerebral swelling ( edema ) or increased cerebral blood volumes. Other factors which are possibly associated with this condition are recent weight gain, menstrual irregularities, and the presence of too much Vitamin A (hypervitaminosis A). Oral retinoid drugs and some antibiotics are other possible causes as is the stopping of steroid use after an extended period. Other conditions that have been associated with pseudotumour cerebri include renal failure, sleep apnea, and some lung diseases which lead to the retention of carbon dioxide. Less frequently, Guillain-Barre syndrome has been found to be associated.
