Personality Disorders Foundation What are Personality Disorders? Personality Disorders are generalized, inflexible patterns of inner experience and behavior. These patterns significantly differ from cultural expectations, and begin in adolescence or early adulthood. Personality Disorders are long-term, maladaptive patterns of perception, emotional regulation, anxiety, and impulse control. They can lead to enormous personal and societal costs, including lost productivity, hospitalizations, significant unhappiness, imprisonment, and suicide. Personality Disorders are among the least understood and recognized disorders in both psychiatry and general medical care. Ironically, as a group of disorders, they are among the most common of the severe mental disorders, and occur frequently with other illnesses (e.g., substance use disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders). Many imprisoned individuals also have a diagnosable personality disorder. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM IV, American Psychiatric Association, 1994), organizes personality disorders into three groups, with three or four disorders per group: Eccentric Personality Disorders: Paranoid, Schizoid, Schizotypal

Jacqueline's Journal Lady Jz Talk Zone So, I agree that, “I don’t think that the paranoia will go away until you become secure in your own thinking and gain some ability to protect yourself by having a secure support system. And that does come with time and commitment.” I’m making that my motto! Continue reading my journal when you click here. Then, post your comments here From our Bookstore Get Me Out of Here : My Recovery from Borderline Personality Disorder Touted as the only book of its kind, this is a firsthand account of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). An accountant and mother of three, Reiland (a pseudonym) tells the poignant story of her life, which included all-too-familiar episodes of anorexia, promiscuity, impulsiveness, suicide attempts, institutionalization in a mental hospital, and often unrelenting, anger-intensive, violent, and unpredictable behavior. Max and Oscar are missing. =( - See thier missing posters by clicking on their names. **NOTE** It's been a while since I have worked on my site - I am sorry about that. I am planning on removing broken links and working on things over the next month so hopefully things here will be brighter by the end of the summer. I have taken a chance and have created a page here all about me. This site came in to creation in several ways. I am a survivor of child abuse, both physical and sexual abuse as well as the emotional abuse that came hand in hand with what they did to me. I also am healing and surviving from a sexual assault. After the assault, I spent many hours searching the web for information on how to survive this horrible thing that had happened. I found lots of information on prevention and lots of technical things but not a whole lot on surviving. This was back in late 1995. So, when I found geocities and saw that they offered a free web page service, I was excited. It gave me the possiblity to create the type of site that I had been searching for. So, Mollykat's Resources for Survivors was created.

35. Activity Oriented Group Therapy For Children With ADD/HD At Quest Therapeutic Da
A day camp in Huntington Beach, California which provides group therapy in an activity oriented environment for children ages 614 with ADD, ADHD and certain other forms of learning and personality disorders. Supervised by Dr. Linda C. Sanicola. Three, four, and five week sessions.
http://www.QuestCampHB.com
THE QUEST PROGRAM: Quest's therapeutic program uniquely combines behavioral methods, group therapy, recreational activities and instructional athletics to assist each child in developing new skills and eliminating those actions which create difficulties for them. By observing a child in a naturalistic setting, Quest staff are able to intervene as problems occur. Issues are presented to the child in a positive manner, helping the child to see the problem and possible positive solutions. Through instruction in athletics, each child builds skills and self-esteem. This enables them to participate with peers more effectively and successfully. Quest campers range in age from 6 to 14 years old. The typical Quest camper has above average intelligence and many strengths. They may experience frustration in their lives and poor self-esteem due to their perception of failure and lack of acceptance from peers. They might be kids that struggle in finding stable, good friends, in achieving consistently the goals they desire, a kid who comes home from school upset because of a sense of rejection or failure. Campers may have diagnoses of Attention Deficit Disorder, learning disabilities, adjustment disorders, anxiety, depression, or self-esteem problems. Children with more complex problems are not appropriate for Quest. Our campers do not look or act differently than other children. Problems they experience are more subtle yet significant in their effect on the child and the family. Without intervention, these children are at higher risk for more serious problems in the future.

"…enduring patterns of perceiving, relating to, and thinking about the environment and oneself … exhibited in a wide range of important social and personal contexts."
Characteristics common to all personality disorders Patients with personality disorders share certain characteristics:
1. Except those suffering from the Schizoid or the Avoidant Personality Disorders, they are insistent and demand preferential and privileged treatment. They complain about numerous symptoms, though they frequently second guess the diagnosis and disobey the physician, his treatment recommendations and instructions.
2. They feel unique, are affected with grandiosity and a diminished capacity for empathy. Consequently, they regard the physician as inferior to them, alienate him and bore him with their self-preoccupation.
