Although there are many causes of this, I suspect that poor sleep, adrenal inadequacy, immune suppression/exhaustion because of yeast infections and leaky gut, and glutathione and other nutritional deficiencies are major contributors. The immune dysfunction can result in many unusual infections. These include viral infections (e.g.HHV-6, CMV, and EBV), parasites and other bowel infections, infections sensitive to long-term treatment with the antibiotics Cipro and Doxycycline (e.g. mycoplasma, chlamydia, Lyme, etc) and fungal infections. Yeast overgrowth is the most important infection to treat for. Many of these infections are not considered by conventional physicians because they are "opportunistic" and not present in people with a healthy immune system.

FDA APPROVES NEW TREATMENT FOR PARASITIC INFECTIONS IN PEDIATRIC PATIENTS
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today announced the approval of Alinia (nitazoxanide) for Oral Suspension for the treatment of diarrhea caused by two parasitic infections, cryptosporidiosis and giardiasis, in pediatric patients one through 11 years of age. To date, the safety and effectiveness of Alinia has not been established in HIV positive or immunodeficient patients. Alinia is the first drug product approved specifically for treatment of cryptosporidiosis and the only drug approved for treatment of giardiasis in this age group that would be available in suspension. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention some 4000 patients in the United States are infected by cryptosporidiosis. Cryptosporidiosis is an illness caused by the protozoan Cryptosporidium parvum and characterized by diarrhea, abdominal cramps, loss of appetite, low-grade fever, nausea and vomiting. Infected persons may be asymptomatic, experience acute diarrhea, or be ill with persistent diarrhea that may continue for several weeks.

Skip navigation menu Search Advanced Search Key Functions 30 December 2004 The immediate health needs among people returning to the United Kingdom (UK) from the many countries around the Indian Ocean affected by the south Asia earthquake and tsunamis are likely to be physical and psychological resulting from the trauma, shock and loss that individuals have experienced. Although their risk of infectious disease is believed to be low at this time, there are some important infectious conditions that they might be at increased risk of acquiring. These are infections that are already prevalent in the countries concerned and which may occur at increased incidence as a result of the difficult environmental conditions and damage to local infrastructure following the tsunamis. Individuals returning from affected areas may be at higher risk of infectious disease because they will have been exposed to worse environmental circumstances than those that they expected and were prepared for. It is not possible to compile a short definitive list of the infections that may occur, as so many countries are affected with different endemic infectious disease profiles. Some of the more relevant ones are listed in the table below, by country. In view of the wide range but low individual risk of these infections, screening for infection on arrival back in the UK (e.g. at ports) is not justified. However all those returning are advised that if they have health concerns they should seek advice from their general practitioner (GP), and should certainly do so if they experience symptoms. Advice for those travellers returning to the UK from affected areas is available at:

Yale Researchers Identify Molecule for Detecting Parasitic Infection in Humans
New Haven, Conn. Most infections are caused by bacterial or viral microorganisms that produce molecules quite different from those produced by humans and other eukaryotic organisms. When microorganisms infect humans, the atypical molecules are usually detected immediately by human proteins called Toll-like receptors (TLR) that alert the human immune system to fight the infection. But parasites, like humans, are eukaryotic in origin and how the body detects them has been a mystery. The common parasite Toxoplasma gondii T. gondii ) causing toxoplasmosis, has a complicated life cycle in which it is transmitted from mice to cats and then to humans. Previous research had shown that T. gondii is recognized by a TLR and that the recognition of this parasite is crucial for an appropriate immune response. However, it was unclear which of the 13 different TLRs present in mammals was responsible and which molecule of T. gondii
