The Dannemiller Memorial Educational Foundation was founded in 1984 in memory of Francis Joseph Dannemiller, MD. Dr. Dannemiller was the Chairman and Director of the Anesthesiology Residency Training Program at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He encouraged and stimulated an interest in research by his own involvement that resulted in numerous protocols and publications. His dedication to medicine and his devotion to teaching others in both the art and science of Anesthesiology and Pain Management was an inspiration to all who knew him. He often commented that his primary goal was to "motivate others to learn what they did not know". This remains the philosophy of the Dannemiller Memorial Educational Foundation.

Plantar Fasciitis is a Common Cause of Heel Pain
Plantar fasciitis, which may cause the heel to hurt, feel hot or swell, is inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thin layer of tough tissue supporting the arch of the foot. Repeated microscopic tears of the plantar fascia cause pain. Sometimes plantar fasciitis is called "heel spurs", but this is not always accurate, since bony growths on the heel may or may not be a factor. Diagnostic testing, such as X-rays, usually is not necessary to diagnose plantar fasciitis, although it may be useful to rule out other potential causes of heel pain. Typically with plantar fasciitis, the pain is worse when first getting out of bed, or is noticeable at the beginning of an activity and gets better as the body warms up. Prolonged standing may cause pain, as well. In more severe cases, the pain may worsen toward the end of the day. There are a number of possible causes for plantar fasciitis and they often work in combination. Tightness of the foot and calf, improper athletic training, stress on the arch or weakness of the foot are potential causes. Shoes that don’t fit, certain play or work actions or overuse (running too fast, too far, too soon) may hurt the plantar fascia. People with low arches, flat feet or high arches are at increased risk of developing plantar fasciitis.

ABSTRACT Background The effect of osteopathic manual therapy (i.e., spinal manipulation) in patients with chronic and subchronic back pain is largely unknown, and its use in such patients is controversial. Nevertheless, manual therapy is a frequently used method of treatment in this group of patients. Methods We performed a randomized, controlled trial that involved patients who had had back pain for at least three weeks but less than six months. We screened 1193 patients; 178 were found to be eligible and were randomly assigned to treatment groups;

HOME Welcome to PRN. We are a network of pain patients, family members of people in pain, physicians, attorneys, and activists who are working toward a day when people in pain will be afforded the simple dignity and compassion due all ill Americans. Currently 50 million people are living in untreated, disabling pain. Americans are living longer, and many suffer unspeakable agony for decades before they die. United States citizens of all ages are living and dying in pain, even children with cancer are dying in pain. The devastation in the lives of patients and their families cannot be overstated. Because patients in pain currently have no political standing and, hence, no voice in the community, prosecutors and law makers alike have thus far shown little concern for their welfare. For proof of the sub-citizen status of pain patients, consider the general lack of concern evinced by politicians when medical clinics which treat pain are shut down by the authorities. As patients are abandoned by the thousands, stigmatized by prosecutors, turned away by all other doctors, forced onto disability, and many condemned to suicide, our country casually looks the other way.

    Menstrual Pain Overview
    Menstrual cramps are sharp pains in a woman's lower abdomen that occur when her menstrual period begins and may continue for 2-3 days. Symptoms can range in severity from a mild annoyance to severe pain that interferes with normal activities. Menstrual cramps are the leading cause of absenteeism in women younger than 30 years. Although over half of women who have menstrual periods experience some discomfort, 10% are temporarily disabled by symptoms. The following circumstances may make a woman more likely to experience menstrual cramps:
    • She started her first period at an early age (younger than 11 years).
      Her menstrual periods last 5 days or longer.
      She is overweight or obese.
      She smokes cigarettes or uses alcohol.
      She has never been pregnant.
