Use of Cytotoxic Agents and Cyclosporine in the Treatment of Autoimmune Disease
Part 1: Rheumatologic and Renal Diseases
Carol A. Langford, MD MHS John H. Klippel, MD James E. Balow, MD Stephen P. James, MD ... Michael C. Sneller, MD
When cytotoxic agents were initially introduced, their ability to disrupt nucleic acid and protein synthesis led to their effective use for the treatment of neoplastic disease.During the course of this use, however, it became apparent that these agents also suppress the immune system. This usually unwelcome effect was subsequently studied and beneficially directed toward the treatment of non-neoplastic diseases in which autoimmune mechanisms were considered important to pathogenesis. As a result of these investigations

Each kidney is made of more than a million units called nephrons. Each nephron has a tuft of blood vessels called a glomerulus, which is surrounded by a Bowman's Capsule. Together, these structures filter blood and form urine. Minimal change disease is one cause of nephrotic syndrome . It is named "minimal change" because the nephrons appear totally normal under a light microscope. The condition is only seen using an electron microscope, which reveals changes in the Bowman's Capsule in the nephrons. Urine tests also show high protein levels. Causes, incidence, and risk factors

Title Barley Diseases - Epidemiology, Commercial Impact and Strategies for Management of Powdery Mildew and Blotch Diseases Description Research Update (Advisers) - Northern Region - August 2002 GRDC Project* DAQ 464 Author Greg Platz, QDPI
Ph: (07) 4661 2944, Greg.Platz@dpi.qld.gov.au Presented Dubbo and Moree, NSW *Note - this report may contain independently supported projects, which complement the work in this GRDC research program.
Take home message
  • Maximise barley yields and quality through integrated control of foliar diseases. Identify disease risk by considering the availability of inoculum, predicted environmental conditions and potential loss. Exercise control options based on the risk. ie. crop rotation, choice of variety use of fungicides and cost.
Foliar diseases of barley are seen as major constraints to reliable and sustainable crop production. Barley is vulnerable to attack by rusts, mildew and leaf spots. The impact of these diseases in the Northern Region was demonstrated in 1998, when it is estimated some $49 million of production was lost to leaf blotch diseases alone. Subsequent minor outbreaks and epidemics of powdery mildew have further raised awareness to the presence of these diseases. Leaf blotch diseases include net blotch, spot form of net blotch and spot blotch. Scald could also be included in this category; but will not be covered in this paper. The focus of this paper is net blotches and powdery mildew.

    -An Old View
-A New Look Anand Gokani Looking at this suggestion from both the philosophical angle and the scientific angle, it is clear that in Nature there is enough to maintain a good quality of life. If Nature created life on Earth it also arranged for its subsistence. This assumption is appealing because, in it, may lie the answer to a host of diseases. Are we damaging our food unknowingly?
Are we depriving our bodies of the essential, vital ingredients which go to make a healthy body? With the ever increasing variety of illnesses and the grotesque statistics which show that diseases are ever increasing and life expectancy rapidly decreasing, it is clear that there is something wrong with our system. There were times when reaching the late eighties was routine but now the approaching fifties bring with them diabetes, hypertension, ischaemic heart disease and so many other problems. Can we stem the rot?

To Netnews Homepage Previous Next Index ... Table of Contents Esoteric Healing - The Basic Causes of Disease The Training of the Healer As regards the training of the healer, I will give from time to time the six rules which govern (or should govern) his activity. Bear in mind the two words which I earlier gave. They sum up the healer's story: Magnetism and Radiation . They are different in their effects as we shall later see. Rule one
The healer must seek to link his soul, his heart, his brain and his hands. Thus can he pour the vital healing force upon the patient. This is magnetic work . It cures disease, or may increase the so-called evil state, according to the knowledge of the healer.
The healer must seek to link his soul, his brain, his heart and auric emanation. Thus can his presence feed the [18] soul life of the patient. This is the work of radiation. The hands are needed not. The soul displays its power. The patient's soul responds through the response of his aura to the radiation of the healer's aura, flooded with soul energy. In considering the Causes of Disease, I find it necessary to speak a word in connection with conditions - external and internal. It will be apparent to the casual thinker that many diseases and many causes of death are due to environing conditions for which he is in no way responsible. These range all the way from purely external occurrences to hereditary predispositions. They might be listed as follows:
