The National Institute for Learning Disabilities was established to meet the needs of students and adults with learning disabilities through an individualized program of educational therapy. NILD trains educators in a model of intervention utilizing a variety of techniques designed to stimulate cognitive and perceptual functioning. The goal of NILD Educational Therapy™ is to equip individuals with learning disabilities to succeed as independent learners. We have 1500+ trained therapists offering our program across the US and in 46 countries. After the Hurricane – Rebuilding Our hearts go out to all those severely impacted by hurricane Katrina. NILD seeks to impact our culture by bringing educational tools to those who are struggling to learn. We were grieved to see the large number of economically disadvantaged people who were unable to evacuate the area, particularly in New Orleans. It would be our hope to contribute to the rebuilding effort along the Gulf Coast by providing training for educators and health professionals to release young lives from the constraints of poverty. Please contact us if we can be of assistance. Our prayers are with you.

Highlights This Week (September 5 - September 11):
Components of Effective Reading Instruction
There is no single "best" program for teaching reading. However, scientific investigators agree about the need for instruction to address certain key abilities involved in learning to read. The importance of different reading-related abilities tends to shift somewhat with grade level and stage of development in reading; the abilities needed to be a successful middle- or high-school reader are not exactly the same as those required for success in first grade. Many authorities also agree that certain qualities can help to make reading instruction more effective with most youngsters, although students with learning disabilities in reading may have some special instructional needs Click here to read this month's article on Components of Effective Reading Instruction Check out these LD OnLine articles about Reading Instruction
