Information found on http:// www.iritis.org/ Iritis , also known as Uveitis, is the inflammation of the iris, the coloured portion of the eye. It has been known to cause extreme pain, light sinsitivity and loss of sight, which is often the result of a disease in another part of the body. There are several articles that link the HLA-B27 gene to iritis as well as many other autoimmune diseases such as Ankylosing Spondylitis. While iritis sometimes, occurs only once, most cases are recurring. Once treated the attack will usually respond to various medications. However the condition may become sight threatening when left untreated. Medication for iritis varies, treatment that works for one person will not always work with another. TREATMENT Sight loss can be prevented, since iritis is an inflammation inside the eye, the condition is potentially sight threatening. Proper diagnosis and prompt treatment of iritis are essential. Treatment consists of the use of corticosteroid eye drops and dilating agent drops. Corticosteroid eye drops are used in order to supress inflammation. Initial treatment is often frequent (sometimes as often as every hour) until the inflammation is suppressed.

Iritis Inflammation of the iris of one or both eyes; if acute, may give rise to Glaucoma , either because white cells produced in response to inflammation build up and block channel which drains fluid from front chamber of eye, or because iris sticks to front of lens, which also prevents drainage of fluid; if long-standing, may give rise to Cataract . Condition mainly affects young adults, but is not at all common; often it is a complication of Rheumatoid arthritis Ankylosing spondylitis , sarcoidosis, or even syphilis (see Sexually transmitted diseases ), but more often it has no obvious cause. Symptoms are redness and discomfort, slight blurring of vision, and sometimes a Headache If symptoms include headache and pain in affected eye, consult your doctor if there is no improvement in 2 hours. Because of the risk of glaucoma, an eye specialist should be seen as soon as possible; steroid drops may be necessary to reduce inflammation and prevent iris sticking to lens, but they do not get to the root of the problem. Iritis tends to be a recurrent constitutional problem, so constitutional treatment from an expert homeopath should be sought. Don't let a cookie cutter agency take you to the wrong company. We understand your situation and can get you a great solution your insurance needs. Life insurance is a contract between you and an insurance company and is a way to protect your family in case of your death, by providing funds to pay outstanding bills, taxes and income loss. Under a Term Life contract, the insurance company promises to pay your beneficiaries a sum of money in the event that you die within a period of time defined in the contract (such as 5, 10, 15, 20 or 30 years). Under a Permanent Life contract, a portion of the money you pay in premiums is invested in a fund that earns interest on a tax-deferred basis. Over time, your policy will accumulate a "cash value" that you can use. For instance, you can borrow against the value of your policy. Moreover, you can design a Permanent Life contract that will accumulate enough cash so as to be "paid up" by a certain age (e.g., "Paid Up Age 65"). http://www.terencemendoza.co.uk/html/iritis_eye_disease.htm
Iritis
Iritis, as it name suggests, affects the iris or coloured part of the eye. Nobody fully understands what causes it, but this inflammatory condition quite often follow on from inflammation elsewhere, such as arthritis. Generally it will affect only one eye which will become very painful and red, with blurred vision and sensitivity to light. The pupil will probably appear small too. The iris is heavily pigmented - when it becomes inflamed it releases pigment cells. A doctor or optometrist can pick up this sign using a Slit Lamp Microscope. Once diagnosed, it is important that the condition is treated at a hospital eye department as soon as possible. The pigment cells can block the fluid drainage channels inside the eye causing the pressure to go up, resulting in glaucoma. Similarly the inflamed iris will tend to stick to the lens directly behind, once again potentially causing glaucoma.
Iritis treatment
The condition is treated both with anti-inflammatory drops and drops to enlarge the pupil to prevent it sticking or to release any areas that have become stuck. The drops do cause blurring of vision but are an essential part of the treatment.

Uveitis
Definition: Uveitis is an inflammation of the the uvea , the layer between the sclera and the retina , which includes the iris ciliary body , and the choroid
Alternative Names: Iritis; Pars planitis; Choroiditis; Chorioretinitis; Anterior uveitis; Posterior uveitis
Causes, incidence, and risk factors: Uveitis is an inflammation inside the eye, affecting the uvea. The uvea provides most of the blood supply to the retina. Causes of uveitis can include autoimmune disorders, infection, or exposure to toxins. However in many cases, the cause remains unknown. The most common form of uveitis is anterior uveitis, which involves inflammation in the front part of the eye, which is usually isolated to the iris. This condition is often called iritis. The inflammation may be associated with autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis , but most cases occur in healthy people and do not indicate an underlying disease. The disorder may affect only one eye and is most common in young and middle-aged people. A history of an autoimmune disease is a risk factor.

z Patient Information Sheet Iritis This is an inflammatory condition affecting the iris, (the coloured part of your eye). It can be associated with other inflammatory conditions of the body, for example arthritis, but in most cases the cause remains unknown. It is a common condition which tends to recur, and although it usually only affects one eye at any one time, it is important to realise that iritis can affect either eye. Signs and symptoms Aching, painful red eye with small pupil, blurred vision and sensitivity to light. Treatment It is important that this condition is treated at an ophthalmic casualty department, as it can be difficult to diagnose without certain equipment, which is usually not available at your doctor's surgery. The doctor will prescribe anti-inflammatory drops which may be used frequently at first, then gradually tailed off. You must not suddenly stop using the drops, or the iritis may recur. You may also need to use an anti-inflammatory ointment last thing at night. You will be given drops to dilate your pupil. This will cause blurring of vision and difficulty in focusing, and may also increase your sensitivity to light, but it is a vital part of the treatment for iritis. If the pupil is not dilated, the inflamed iris will stick to the lens, which can lead to complications. You may require intensive pupil dilating drops in casualty to ensure your pupil is dilated before you go home. Should you have a future attack of iritis, it is essential that you seek early treatment at an ophthalmic casualty department to prevent complications.

    Iritis
Iritis, also know as Uveitis, is a condition of inflammation of the Iris, or colored part, of the eye. Iritis may be brought on by infection or systemic inflammatory condition such as sarcoid, rheumatoid arthritis, gout and several other arthritic conditions. People with ulcerative colitis are at increased risk of Iritis also. Symptoms of Iritis include sensitivity to bright lights, eye pain, tearing, redness and blurry vision. It is extremely important to see your eye care doctor immediately when experiencing similar symptoms, since Iritis can lead to increased eye pressure if left untreated. Your doctor may treat this condition by giving you eyedrops that blur your vision and steroid eye drops or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory eye drops.
