Indications for Hypertensive patients COZAAR is indicated for the treatment of hypertension. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents. Hypertensive patients with LVH COZAAR is indicated to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), but there is evidence that this benefit does not apply to black patients. Nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients COZAAR is indicated for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy with an elevated serum creatinine and proteinuria (urinary albumin to creatinine ratio 300 mg/g) in patients with type 2 diabetes and a history of hypertension. In this population, COZAAR reduces the rate of progression of nephropathy as measured by the occurrence of doubling of serum creatinine or end-stage renal disease (ESRD) (need for dialysis or renal transplantation). Selected Important Cautionary Information COZAAR is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to any component of this product.

TCM Hospital: Arterial Hypertension And Traditional Chinese Medicine In China
Systemic arterial hypertension is defined as elevated arterial blood pressure, with systolic pressure over 160 mmHG and /or diastolic pressure over 95mmHG. Blood pressure that is consistently 140 mmHG systolic and/or 90mmHg diastolic or higher is considered border line hypertensions. Hypertension is usually of two types: primary and secondary. Essential, or primary, hypertension is systemic arterial hypertension of unknown cause; 90 to 95 percent of systemic hypertension cases fall under this category. Secondary hypertension is elevated systemic blood pressure of known cause; five to ten percent of systemic hypertension cases are of this type. In this article, we discuss only the traditional diagnosis and treatment of essential hypertension. In traditional Chinese medicine, essential hypertension is included in the syndromes of headache and dizziness due to interior injury.

Blood travels from the right side of the heart through the pulmonary arteries into the lungs. There, carbon dioxide is removed from the blood and oxygen is added to it. Normally, the right side of the heart is weaker than the left side, because relatively little muscle and effort are needed to push the blood through the pulmonary arteries. In contrast, the left side of the heart is stronger and more muscular because it has to push blood through the entire body. Likewise, blood pressure through the pulmonary arteries is lower than that of the general circulation. While the pressure in the general circulation is normally about 120/80 mm Hg, in the pulmonary arteries it is only 25/15 mm Hg.

Portal Hypertension
What is Portal Hypertension?
The portal vein connects the intestines and the liver, and supplies most of
When a liver becomes damaged, scar tissue replaces dead liver cells and interrupts normal blood flow. This causes blood to back up into the portal vein and increases the blood pressure there as the blood finds alternate routes back to the heart and lungs, usually by forcing its way into the tiny veins of the esophagus and stomach.

Parents Medical Problems
It might seem odd that children can have high blood pressure, or hypertension, because we usually associate the condition with older people. But some kids do have it, even in infancy. This can be a frightening thought, because hypertension can affect not only a person's health and lifestyle, it can also be life-threatening if left untreated. More than 58 million people in the United States age 6 and older - or one in five people - have high blood pressure. Of those with hypertension, about one third to one half don't even know they have it. Hypertension isn't as common in children as in adults (only about 1% of kids in the United States have it), but here's the problem: there's a common misconception that hypertension only surfaces later, in adulthood. Even most adults who have high blood pressure don't consider that its roots might extend back to their own childhood. Nor do they think about the dangerous effects hypertension could have on their children. From the time a child is 3 years old, regular

You probably remember the routine from your last physical exam: A nurse wraps a cuff around your upper arm, pumps the cuff full of air, and then lets the air out slowly while listening through a stethoscope. Most likely, you don't remember feeling anything - except perhaps that odd sensation of the blood pounding in your arm! For most guys and girls, this is the only time they think about their blood pressure. Understanding Blood Pressure
Every person needs blood pressure to live. Without it, blood wouldn't be able to circulate through the body to carry oxygen and fuel vital organs. Blood pressure is the pressure your blood exerts against your blood vessel walls as your heart pumps. Blood pressure rises with each heartbeat and falls when the heart relaxes between beats, but there is always a certain amount of pressure in the arteries. That blood pressure comes from two physical forces. The heart creates one force as it pumps blood into the arteries and through the circulatory system. The other force comes from the arteries resisting the blood flow. Blood pressure changes from minute to minute and is affected not only by activity and rest, but also by temperature, diet, emotional state, posture, and medications.
