Welcome to the FSP Support Group
The FSP Support Group is a 'self-help' group that aims to provide assistance to those suffering from Familial Spastic Paraplegia (also known as Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia or HSP). Members of the Group come primarily from the UK although we are expanding our frontiers with some international members from Ireland, Germany and France. We also have a number of professional associates. Members of the Group gain many benefits such as:
  • A quarterly newsletter which updates members on current topics. A national meeting which includes an Annual General Meeting, lectures by FSP/HSP specialists and subsequent discussion groups. A help-line which offers advice to new members and those with problems. A library of information articles on FSP/HSP.
The FSP Support Group was started in 1989 by Stephanie Wyatt to support her affected husband and son. Our membership is now nationwide and continues to rise. The aims of the group are to encourage and support sufferers. In addition, affected families are encouraged to support a genetic research programme by completing a family history tree chart. This pool of information is vital in identifying the source and origin of the condition with the view to reducing its occurrence. The current group awareness programme will hasten the work carried out by the team based at The National Hospital in London.
