Hemorrhoids Hemorrhoids
Especially during the third trimester, many pregnant women get hemorrhoids (also called “piles”). Hemorrhoids are more common if the woman is constipated. Causes of Hemorrhoids During Pregnancy
Hemorrhoids are varicose veins (swollen veins) that appear in the rectal area. They can sometimes protrude from the anus. They are often itchy or painful and can sometimes rupture and bleed. Hemorrhoids occur when straining or pressure causes the veins in your rectum to swell and enlarge. Three common causes of hemorrhoids are:
  • Straining during bowel movements The strain of excess weight The pressure of sitting or standing for long periods of time
During pregnancy, your growing uterus can increase the pressure on the veins lower in the body. This can lead to hemorrhoids. Also, pregnancy hormones can cause the walls of your veins to relax. This allows them to swell more easily. Straining, especially during hard bowel movements, traps more blood in the swollen veins, which can make hemorrhoids very painful. Straining can also cause hemorrhoids to protrude from the rectum. If you have had hemorrhoids before pregnancy, you're more likely to get them again while pregnant. They may also develop or flare up with the straining of labor.

A Low Budget Survey Based on an Internet Questionnaire
Hemorrhoids. Half the population will suffer with them, but there is little research effort to cure them. Why? The problem can be solved with life-style changes or with inexpensive nutritional supplements. Pharmaceutical companies have no incentive to do the research on easily available substances that cannot be patented. Scientists gain no fame by proving once again that "fiber is good for you."
So. Welcome to the world wide web of orphaned diseases. Without financial incentives, the only way you are likely to find out what generally works for others is to share information. If you have tried something that didn't work, that is also important for others to know.
This site was developed as a low budget research project. It does not push, sell, or have any commercial reason to suggest any particular product. Instead, the site will be used to gather information from people who have or have had hemorrhoids and are willing to share with us what worked and did not work for them. As this information is collected, it will be analyzed and posted on this board. (We are permitting the placement of ads and links at the bottom of these pages, but this should not be interpreted as endorsements.) Please take the time to fill out the questionnaire. The results will be posted on this site.

HEMORRHOIDS
Hemorrhoids are dilated veins that are caused by increased pressure in the rectum. This increased pressure can be caused by constipation and hence straining to get stool out, pregnancy, cirrhosis of the liver, some forms of cancer, or for no good reason at all. They can occur towards the tail end of the anus (external hemorrhoids) or towards the rectum (internal hemorrhoids). If they are external, they may protrude from the anus and you may be able to feel them with your hand. Sometimes you can have hemorrhoids and not even know it, but the most common symptoms are bright red blood (usually found on the toilet paper), pain, and itching. Your doctor should examine you to make sure these symptoms are not being caused by a more serious problem. Treatment usually involves treatment for constipation: a high-fiber, high-fluid diet with possible use of stool softeners. Preparation H and other creams, including topical steroids, may help stop the itching. Email this page to a friend

A Comprehensive Guide to Hemorrhoids
What are hemorrhoids?
Hemorrhoids is a common rectal/bowel disorder that as many as half of the people in the United States and other industrialized nations may suffer from. The itching or painful mass of dilated veins in swollen anal tissue is a hemorrhoid. When bulging hemorrhoidal veins are irritated, they often cause surrounding membranes to swell. The swelling may lead to pain, burn, and itchiness of the area. Did you know? (some quick statistics and facts)
  • Hemorrhoids was the most commonly reported digestive disorder in 2003. About 23 million adults in America had hemorrhoids (12.8 percent of the noninstitutionalized population). Of those who ever report having hemorrhoids, only 21 percent ever had hemorrhoids surgery
(based off of studies in the 1990s, Advance Data From Vital and Health Statistics; No. 212) Who is at risk for hemorrhoids? Hemorrhoids is a common rectal/bowel disorder that as many as half of the people in the United States and other industrialized nations may suffer from at one point in their life. If any of the following statements are true, you may be at risk of getting hemorrhoids:

    What are hemorrhoids?
Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in your rectum or anus. The type of hemorrhoid you have depends on where it occurs. Internal hemorrhoids involve the veins inside your rectum. Internal hemorrhoids usually don't hurt but they may bleed painlessly. Sometimes, an internal hemorrhoid may stretch down until it bulges outside your anus. This is called a prolapsed hemorrhoid. A prolapsed hemorrhoid will go back inside your rectum on its own, or you can gently push it back inside. External hemorrhoids involve the veins outside the anus. They can be itchy or painful and can sometimes crack and bleed. If a blood clot forms, you may feel a tender lump on the edge of your anus. You may see bright red blood on the toilet paper or in the toilet after a bowel movement. Return to top

    The Hemorrhoid/Haemorrhoid Page
How I cured Hemorrhoids, the natural way. I prepared this page because I just went through this ordeal and could not find any helpful information on the internet explaining how to deal with it.
I’m a sporty guy and only 37, so I thought it a bit strange for me to have hemorrhoids at all. But then it occurred to me that it could be due to the fact that, after a long break, I started riding a bicycle again. I was borrowing a cheap bike with a very hard seat, and after riding 30 km or more for many days near to each other, I noticed tons of blood mingling in my stool. So many days in fact that I was seriously thinking of going to the hospital, which I almost never do.
Anyway, after much research and experimentation, I managed to find a solution to my predicament. Therefore, feel free to embark on this journey with me. As everything I do in my life, I prefer to lace it with a sense of humour (almost necessary in hard times like these). However, this could foreseeably lead to rather graphic and gruesome descriptions, so I hope you enjoy.
So, after noticing a deeply red toilet bowl for more than a week, a pain started developing and I eventually realised I had what I thought I would never have: Hemorrhoids.

Rubber band ligation is probably the most widely used treatment for internal hemorrhoids. An applicator is used to place one or two small rubber bands around the base of the hemorrhoid, cutting off its blood supply (figures A and B). After 3-10 days, the rubber bands and the hemorrhoid fall off, leaving a scab which disappears within a week or two. (Illustration by Electronic Illustrators Group.) Definition
Hemorrhoids are enlarged veins in the anus or lower rectum. They often go unnoticed and usually clear up after a few days, but can cause long-lasting discomfort, bleeding and be excruciatingly painful. Effective medical treatments are available, however. Description
Hemorrhoids (also called piles) can be divided into two kinds, internal and external. Internal hemorrhoids lie inside the anus or lower rectum, beneath the anal or rectal lining. External hemorrhoids lie outside the anal opening. Both kinds can be present at the same time. Hemorrhoids are a very common medical complaint. More than 75% of Americans have hemorrhoids at some point in their lives, typically after age 30. Pregnant women often develop hemorrhoids, but the condition usually clears up after

    Types and symptoms of hemorrhoids
Two of the most common types of hemorrhoids are external and internal hemorrhoids. External hemorrhoids are those that occur outside of the anal verge (the distal end of the anal canal). They are sometimes painful, and can be accompanied by swelling and irritation. Itching, although often thought to be a symptom from external hemorrhoids, is more commonly due to skin irritation. If the vein ruptures and a blood clot develops, the hemorrhoid becomes a thrombosed hemorrhoid Internal hemorrhoids are those that occur inside the rectum . As this area lacks pain receptors , internal hemorrhoids are usually not painful and most people are not aware that they have them. Internal hemorrhoids, however, may bleed when irritated. Untreated internal hemorrhoids can lead to two severe forms of hemorrhoids: prolapsed and strangulated hemorrhoids.

Overview Hemorrhoids, often called piles, are swollen and inflamed veins in your anus and rectum. They may result from straining when having a bowel movement or the increased pressure on these veins during pregnancy. A sometimes embarrassing topic of discussion, hemorrhoids are common. By age 50, about half of adults deal with the itching, bleeding and pain that often signal the presence of this condition. Fortunately, effective medications and procedures are readily available to treat hemorrhoids. In many cases this condition may require only self-care and lifestyle changes.
