"Where there's life, there's hope" - Cicero Welcome to Eccoblue's Fight for Survival web site,
dedicated to help with her battle against heart and liver disease
Introduction : Eccoblue is the nickname and moniker used by Kelli Jaunsen on the internet and as a signature for her artwork.
After a lifetime of fighting for survival, 21-year-old Kelli, has learned she will need a heart-liver transplant. Although thousands
of organ transplants have become commonplace, the heart-liver combination is rare, only 36 have ever been done over the past
13 years, according to the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN). Kelli's story is one of amazing courage in the face of incredible odds, where each one of her multiple, open-heart surgeries
brought new complications for her to overcome. In spite of physical and mental adversity, Kelli has produced award-winning
photographic images and creates unique, digital art as well. Much of her work may be seen on this site. JULY 2005: Kelli sings with John Stamos and the Beach Boys in Las Vegas.

Information about this 4 year old who has Pulmonary Hypertension, a Congenital heart Lung Defect. heart lung transplant will be needed in the future.
http://home-2.tiscali.nl/~rsmid/index.html
I am Roosje Smid - I have Pulminary Hypertension
The girl you see on the picture is the almost 7 year old Roosje Smid, she has a unique congenital heart lung defect which results in a life threatening high blood pressure especially in the lung arteries. This defect is known as (Primary) Pulmonary Hypertension or PH / PPH . Today we know that Roos has Secondairy Pulmonary Hypertension. In Roos' case the defect is at least caused by the fact that the upper half of the arteries in the lungs that assimilate the oxygen from the air into the blood, have not been formed. Instead of these arteries extra (so called aberrant) arteries have been formed between the short and long blood circulation system, which is the cause for the high blood pressure in Roosjes lungs (around a factor of 4 above normal levels). Against this high pressure her heart has to work. It is beyond saying that eventually this little heart will lose this struggle. When this congenital defect was discovered at the age of 4 months, the lungs had already lost all their elasticity (compare this with an airballoon which had been filled with air for a long time) and the only hope was that her situation would remain stable - which it is up till today. The only thing which can save her today is a heart lung transplant, which is - of course - a very dangerous operation. However, the longer she will be able to fight this battle the further the medical sciences will develop and the better her future will be.

Our emphasis on total patient care and cardiac disease management creates a unique program with excellent outcomes and personal attention. Our team works with each patient to determine the most suitable treatment for your condition.
Program Highlights
California Pacific initiated the nation’s first heart transplant service in a private institution in 1984 and has been at the forefront of disease management and transplant ever since. We were the first center in the nation to successfully place and maintain a patient on a bi-ventricular assist device (BiVAD) while waiting for a donor heart and have been a leader in developing the “bridge-to-transplantation.”
With heart disease affecting an estimated 58 million people in the U.S. alone, medical researchers continue to pursue better treatment options. To this end, California Pacific is one of 20 clinical trial sites for the MicroMed DeBakey VAD®,

Rebuilding lives, one at a time. More than a decade of transplant experience. You can't replace that. The Transplant Center at Medical City is as miraculous and sophisticated as the human body itself. Each part of the center, no matter how complex, works with the others in harmony. The result is a living, breathing testament to the power of leading-edge technology and the human spirit. What began in 1991 as a Heart Transplant Program has evolved into a leading regional center for heart, renal/pancreas and stem cell transplantation. Today, we are among the largest, most active transplant facilities in North Texas and the Southwest, having garnered national and international recognition. Our world-class physicians, many with over 20 years of transplant experience, make hope possible. They work closely with a large team of physicians with specialties from immunology to surgery to critical care-and all the specialties and subspecialties in between. The result is a level of care unique to our facility. At Medical City, patients benefit from an entire team of specialists. Each patient is guided through the transplant process by a nurse coordinator with support from a social worker, psychologist and financial coordinator, in addition to their transplant physician and surgeon. This approach makes every transplant a personal experience that the patient doesn't have to go through alone. Add to that a support group, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, and extensive education, and you begin to see why we're unsurpassed in the region.

Doctors transplant muscle cells to patient's failing heart
PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AP) For the first time, doctors have transplanted a patient's own skeletal muscle onto his heart to see if similar tissue could one day be used to treat heart disease. Under the procedure, a small amount of muscle from a patient's arm was removed, grown in a lab for two weeks and then grafted to his heart. The 48-year-old patient is awaiting a heart transplant.

Artificial heart recipient passes 30-day mark
Dr. Rob Dowling operated on recipient of first fully self-contained artificial heart LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (CNN) An unidentified 50-year-old man who is the first recipient of a fully self-contained artificial heart has passed the 30-day mark since the device was implanted at a hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Doctors had told him he had 30 days to live due to impending heart and renal troubles and his diabetes condition. CNN anchor Carol Lin spent some time speaking on Thursday with one of the artificial heart recipient's physicians, Dr. Rob Dowling, a heart surgeon. LIN: How is your patient doing? DOWLING: He's doing wonderful. He's gaining his strength. He's able to get up and move around. We're just very pleased with his progress. LIN: How is he spending his days now? What's he doing? DOWLING: Oh, yes, well, we kind of keep him busy. You know we have the physical therapists coming to see him and the nurses are exercising him and sometimes he just goes and sits and hangs out at the nurse's station and interacts with all the doctors, the lung doctors, the kidney doctors, everyone that's coming by. And sometimes he just listens to his CDs or watches a videotape, but you know, he's we keep him kind of busy.
