Headaches Introduction It is estimated that up to 40 million people in the United States suffer from chronic headaches. Most of these people do not consult doctors because they consider the problem to be too trivial or they think that no treatment is available. Patients who do consult a physician are usually those whose headaches significantly disrupt their lives. Educating the public about available treatments through the media and practicing physicians has increased but more needs to be done. History Diagnosis of Headache Type Most of the information leading to the diagnosis of the headache type is obtained from the patient's history. Frequency and duration : Increasing f requency or duration of headaches indicates the need for a re-evaluation of the patient. Daily headaches are often the result of caffeine or medication overuse. Very brief, but intense and frequent (several times a day) headaches in women suggest the diagnosis of chronic paroxysmal hemicrania which almost always responds to indomethacin. Time patterns : A patient who wakes up with a headache which quickly resolves without medications may be suspected of having a brain tumor or another space occupying lesion. Tension-type headaches tend to worsen as the day progresses but it is not unusual to have a headache upon awakening as well. Cluster headaches tend to be very regular in their time of occurrence. Typically these headaches wake the patient up from sleep in early morning hours.

Security Headaches? Take ASP.NET 2.0!
Keith Brown This article is based on the March 2004 Community Technology Preview of ASP.NET 2.0. All information contained herein is subject to change. This article discusses:
  • Security enhancements in ASP.NET 2.0 Server-side security controls User and role databases Cookieless forms authentication
This article uses the following technologies:
ASP.NET, Authentication
ew security features are an important improvement in ASP.NET 2.0. These features include membership services that manage a database of user accounts, hashed passwords, a role manager for managing role membership for users, and five new server-side controls that make implementing forms authentication much easier. ASP.NET 2.0 also offers a provider model that gives you complete control over the implementation of the Membership and Role services and cookieless forms authentication. You also get easy Web-based administration for simple local and remote administration of user accounts and roles, as well as enhanced control of other non-security related settings.
Forms Authentication Gets a Boost
Forms authentication is one of the most popular features of ASP.NET 1.0 because it encapsulates best practices that were missing from many ad hoc implementations. For example, how many forms authentication implementations do you know of that protect the integrity of the cookie used to hold the client's credentials? Forms authentication not only writes the user's name into the cookie, it adds a message authentication code (a hash formed from the cookie and a secret value that only the Web server knows). This prevents a malicious client from elevating privileges or viewing another user's data by changing the name in her cookie.

127. Headaches & Migraines - Ask The Dietitian
Got questions about headaches or Migraines? Ask Joanne Larsen, Registered Dietitianand nutrition counselor.
http://www.dietitian.com/headaches.html

Migraines
I have been taking 25 mg Amitriptyline and 120 mg Verapamil daily for migraine management for about 2 months now. Do either of these medications stimulate weight gain?
Amitriptyline (trade name Elavil or Endep) is an antidepressant. It increases your appetite for carbohydrates and may increase your need for riboflavin above your RDA, which is 1.3 mg for adult females and 1.7 mg for adult males. You should avoid alcohol and limit caffeine. Some other effects are possibly nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, altered taste, loss of appetite, increased or decreased weight, increased or decreased blood glucose. I know many of these are contradictory, but are provided as significant. Verapamil (trade name Calan or Isoptin) regulates irregular heartbeats (arrhythmia). It does not have any effect on your food intake nor should it effect your weight unless you already have problems with fluid retention because of your heart's ability as a pump. You should avoid alcohol as well with this medication. Constipation may be a problem associated with taking this prescription. Since this is a calcium channel blocker, calcium supplements may decrease the effect of this drug. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist.
My husband experienced a bout with bad headaches last July. After months, they finally went away. He constantly "diets", eats a lot of Snack Well products, drinks 0% fat milk and fruit and 1 or 2 diet cokes per day. Has had every test for headaches, outside of allergy tests. After several months of being headache free, he has again started with severe headaches. I can't convince him to see his doctor, because all tests showed nothing "wrong".

10 ways to avoid password headaches
August 31, 1999

Web posted at: 5:34 p.m. EDT (2134 GMT)
by Tom Spring ALSO Expert: Hotmail hole likely started in Sweden Sign up for the Computer Connection email service For more computing stories (IDG) Passwords are the scourge of the digital age. Never mind the anguish the millennium bug is predicted to cast. Time and again, we are tortured by a multitude of passwords that force us to rack our brains for cryptic words like Get used to it, say computer experts. Increasingly, passwords are our last line of defense protecting our computer, our finances, and our medical records. At work, we have passwords to log on to a local area network, start Windows, and do things like check e-mail and surf a half-dozen Web sites. At some companies, you can't even use the restroom without punching in a five-digit pass code. Experts say employers have a lot to be paranoid about. Password-based attacks on small and large companies are steadily on the rise, say researchers at the CERT Coordination Center, a Carnegie Mellon University organization that collects reports on computer security problems.

She has tried caffeine, vitamins, and Motrin. Motrin works occasionally. Any suggestions? —Low tolerance Dear Low tolerance, There are three major types of headaches: tension (most common), vascular, and organic (rarest of the three that's associated with an underlying medical condition, such as a tumor, infection, disease, or hemorrhage). Migraines fall under the vascular headache category, which are due to constriction and then dilation of blood vessels in the head. Migraines are severe headaches, lasting from several minutes to several days, often accompanied by light and noise sensitivity, nausea, possible vomiting, and sometimes disturbances of vision (known as auras, which include flashing lights and blind spots). According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Migraine Information Center, migraines affect approximately twenty-six million Americans, nearly 75 percent of whom are women. Occasionally, people experience only a single migraine; more typically, however, they have recurrent episodes at varying intervals.

SEATTLE (CNN) A trade meeting of 134 nations this Tuesday threatens to create political headaches for President Clinton and the presidential campaign of Vice President Al Gore In this story:
Unions plan protests

Congressman wants Castro indicted

Thorny subjects such as Cuba, China and labor relations all may intersect when the World Trade Organization opens its four-day conference in Seattle. Cuban President Fidel Castro is considering attending the WTO conference, where he might again use the world stage to castigate the Clinton administration for the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba. With few exceptions, the nations represented in Seattle share Castro's view that the embargo, now almost four decades old, should be lifted. And Chinese trade minister Shi Guangsheng announced Saturday his intention to join the meeting on the sidelines.
Unions plan protest
Thousands of U.S. union workers plan to be in Seattle Tuesday to protest the recent trade agreement between Beijing and Washington.

HEADACHES INTRODUCTION. The most common pain complaint of civilized man, headache pain may be mild and of short duration, or it can be severe enough to incapacitate the sufferer totally. Fortunately, the majority of headaches do not have a serious cause. In fact, chronic headaches are rarely caused by organic diseases such as brain tumors. Headache is one of the most common complaints of those who suffer with various types of TMJ problems. The first well-known classification of headache pain was proposed in 1962 by the Ad Hoc Committee on Classification of Headache of the National Institute of Neurolgical Diseases and Blindness. This committee divided headache pain into three (3) basic categories: (1) vascular headaces; (2) traction-inflammatory headaches; and, (3) muscle contraction headaches. Because there are certainly more than three main types of headaches, in 1987 the International Headache Society developed more specific criteria to provide greater uniformity and reproducibility in the diagnosis of headache. This new classification system divided headache pain into 13 different categories, with TMJ and facial pain falling into category number 11: Headache or facial pain associted with disorder of cranium, neck, eyes, nose, sinuses, teeth, mouth, or other facial or cranial structures.

Overview Headaches may occur for any number of reasons including: sinus conditions, hypertension, allergies, tumors, hormonal changes, and most frequently, stress. They are not usually associated with problems related to the eyes. Migraine headaches Migraine, a type of headache that is often hereditary, usually first surfaces between the ages of 15 and 30. They are most common among women and are thought to be related to stress and some foods. Migraine headaches may cause visual symptoms such as light flashes , temporary blind spots, and blurred vision. Migraines are thought to be caused by the dilation and constriction of arteries in the head. These headaches can be extremely painful. The pain is often limited to one side of the head, and may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting. In many cases, migraines are believed to be brought on by stress. This "Friday night" headache often follows the stress relief of a frenetic week during which the blood vessels in the head relax and constrict. Certain foods and additives such as chocolate, alcohol, dairy, and MSG are also attributed to migraines. However, for many, the cause is variable and extremely difficult to pinpoint.
