What is hay fever?
Hay fever, otherwise known as seasonal allergic rhinitis, is an allergic reaction to airborne substances such as pollen that get into the upper respiratory passages - the nose, sinus, throat - and also the eyes.
What's in a name?
The name hay fever is misleading because symptoms don't just occur in autumn when hay is gathered and never include fever. Hay fever is the most common of all the allergic diseases - about 15 per cent of the population in industrialised countries suffer from this condition. Symptoms usually appear in childhood first and then lessen by the age of 30 or 40.
Perennial allergic rhinitis is a similar allergy that occurs all year round and is caused by things such as house dust mites and pets . However the predominant allergen changes from time to time.
Why do you get hay fever?

Insight Into Causes, Treatment, And Prevention
Forty-five million Americans suffer from a recurring problem called allergy. Allergic rhinitis was once known as hay fever because workers would sneeze and develop nasal and sinus congestion when they worked around hay in the fields. Hay fever, asthma, and eczema are the most common symptoms of an allergic reaction.
Allergy symptoms appear when the body's immune system begins to respond to a substance as though it were a dangerous invader (called an antigen or allergen). It does this by sending specific defenders called antibodies to the entry site. The battle between allergen and antibody results in a release of chemical mediators, such as histamine, into the bloodstream. Those chemical mediators cause changes in the body, which produce the symptoms that we feel.
Symptoms that may be caused by allergy are itching eyes, sneezing, nasal stuffiness, nasal congestion and drainage, and sometimes headache. Some people experience hearing changes, scratchy sore throats, hoarseness, and cough. Other less common symptoms include balance disturbances, swelling in face or throat tissues, skin irritations, and even respiratory problems and asthma.
Some allergy sufferers experience symptoms all year. Others find certain seasons bring on attacks. Allergy symptom control is most successful when multiple management approaches are used simultaneously. Minimizing exposure to allergens, managing symptoms with medications, and desensitization with allergy shots are all methods that can be useful in controlling allergic symptoms.

Welcome to Y AMOA™ POWDER'S official website! You are no doubt here because you have been referred to us by a YAMOA POWDER user or a health practitioner, or because you have read an article about YAMOA. You might, on the other hand, have stumbled across us through a search engine, in which case you may not know what all the fuss is about.
YAMOA POWDER has been used in Ghana for many years to treat respiratory allergies. It is a natural product from the Funtumia Elastica gum tree, and when taken on a relatively short-term basis, can help with the symptoms of conditions such as, asthma hay fever bronchitis sinusitis and COPD , in many cases for the long term.
The intention of this site is to provide honest, objective information regarding YAMOA POWDER in both its forms - the traditional powder and vegetarian capsules. YAMOA POWDER is NOT a miracle herb, and it will NOT have the same results for everyone, although we wish it did. However, we are working with a continuing survey which will help us in the long term to determine who YAMOA POWDER is most effective for, and who it is least likely to help, so that when we have these results, you will be able to make an even more informed choice as to whether you think it may help you.

Allergic rhinitis (hay fever) is an especially common chronic nasal problem in adolescents and young adults. Allergies to inhalants like pollen, dust, and animal dander begin to cause sinus and nasal symptoms in early childhood. Infants and young children are especially susceptible to allergic sensitivity to foods and indoor allergens.
What causes allergic rhinitis? Allergic rhinitis typically results from two conditions: family history/genetic predisposition to allergic disease and exposure to allergens. Allergens are substances that produce an allergic response.
Children are not born with allergies but develop symptoms upon repeated exposure to environmental allergens. The earliest exposure is through food—and infants may develop eczema, nasal congestion, nasal discharge, and wheezing caused by one or more allergens (milk protein is the most common). Allergies can also contribute to repeated ear infections in children. In early childhood, indoor exposure to dust mites, animal dander, and mold spores may cause an allergic reaction, often lasting throughout the year. Outdoor allergens including pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds primarily cause seasonal symptoms.
The number of patients with allergic rhinitis has increased in the past decade, especially in urban areas. Before adolescence, twice as many boys as girls are affected; however, after adolescence, females are slightly more affected than males. Researchers have found that children born to a large family with several older siblings and day care attendance seem to have less likelihood of developing allergic disease later in life.

Hay Fever Causes
Hay fever, like all allergic reactions, is caused by allergens, foreign "invaders" that enter your body by inhalation, by swallowing, or through your skin.
  • In hay fever, the allergens are airborne substances that enter your airways (mouth, nose, throat, and lungs) via your breathing and the linings of your eyes and sometimes ears via direct contact.
Most of the time it is difficult to identify a specific allergen. Once these allergens come in contact with your airway, the white blood cells of your immune system produce antibodies to the offending substance. This overreaction to a harmless substance is often called a hypersensitivity reaction.
    • The antibody, called immunoglobulin E, or IgE, is stored on special cells called mast cells.
When the antibody comes in contact with the corresponding antigen, they promote release of chemicals and hormones called "mediators." Histamine is an example of a mediator.
It is the effects of these mediators on organs and other cells that cause the symptoms of the allergic reaction, in this case hay fever.

Global warming could worsen hay fever problems, study finds
WASHINGTON (AP) Allergy sufferers, beware: Global warming could bring more hay fever, according to government research that shows ragweed produces significantly more pollen as carbon dioxide increases. The ubiquitous weed makes nearly twice as much pollen now as it did 100 years ago and will likely double its production again over the coming century with predicted increases in carbon dioxide levels, the Agriculture Department study suggests.
