Cystocele
Alternate Names : Dropped Bladder, Fallen Bladder Pictures and Images Attribution Cystocele is a condition in which part of the bladder drops down, or protrudes, into the wall of the vagina. What is going on in the body? The bladder is the holding place for urine. It lies just above the vagina in a female. Between the bladder and vagina is a wall made of tissues and muscles that support the bladder and the urethra. The urethra is a tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body. When a woman has a cystocele, the wall supporting the bladder is weaker than usual. This weakening allows part of the bladder to protrude or drop down into the vagina. As the bladder droops into the vagina, the urethra becomes stretched, allowing urine to leak out of the urethra. What are the causes and risks of the disease?

  • avoiding straining during bowel movements or heavy lifting doing Kegel exercises to strengthen the muscles supporting the bladder and vagina using a pessary, which is a device fitted into the vagina to hold the bladder in place taking hormone replacement therapy , or HRT, for postmenopausal women , which may help to strengthen the muscles around the vagina and bladder surgery for severe or persistent symptoms, or for a progressive cystocele. The goal of the surgery is to move the bladder back into its normal position and hold it there.

Would it be beneficial to have bladder suspension surgery in the absence of incontinence? Low back and pelvic pain, along with VERY frequent urination and a vaginal buldge are my only symptoms thus far. I do, however, seem to get more than my fair share of yeast and bladder infections. I had a hysterectomy about 18 months ago and am wondering why this is happening to me now!? It's more a matter of annoyance than anything else, although it would be nice to NOT have to use the bathroom every 30 minutes! :-) My social life is suffering here! And, I'm afraid if I don't fix it now it'll get worse with time.

    How the Urinary Bladder Works
If you are like most women, you take your urinary system for granted - until it causes problems. Most of us have enough going on in our busy lives and don't have time to worry constantly about how our bladder is doing.
Actually, your urinary system is really an amazing piece of work. Every time you eat, your body absorbs fluids into your blood stream. Every day, the billions of cells in your body generate waste products that are toxic and must be removed. Your two kidneys constantly filter your bloodstream to remove excess fluid and toxins from your body. This excess fluid, or urine, is transported down each ureter (YOUR-eh-tur) and stored in your urinary bladder (not to be confused with your gall bladder) until it is socially acceptable to empty. The bladder is a balloon-shaped muscular organ that changes shape as it fills with urine.
Located at the bottom of the bladder, there is a valve called the

Many sites provide valuable information, while others may have information that is unreliable or misleading." Furthermore, because of the rapid increase in Internet-based information, many hours can be wasted searching, selecting, and printing. Since only the smallest fraction of information dealing with stress incontinence is indexed in search engines, such as www.google.com or others, a non-systematic approach to Internet research can be not only time consuming, but also incomplete. This book was created for medical professionals, students, and members of the general public who want to conduct medical research using the most advanced tools available and spending the least amount of time doing so. Related Conditions/Synonyms fallen bladder Description This is a 3-in-1 reference book. It gives a complete medical dictionary covering hundreds of terms and expressions relating to stress incontinence. It also gives extensive lists of bibliographic citations. Finally, it provides information to users on how to update their knowledge using various Internet resources. If your time is valuable, this book is for you. First, you will not waste time searching the Internet while missing a lot of relevant information. Second, the book also saves you time indexing and defining entries. Finally, you will not waste time and money printing hundreds of web pages.

    Dr. Donohue
    Surgery won't help her incontinence
Dear Dr. Donohue: At age 35, I had my uterus removed and my bladder suspended. Now at 51, I am having great difficulty with urge incontinence.
I consulted a urologist, who found my bladder had dropped. He noted that no urine leaked when I coughed.
He put me on Ditropan, which greatly improved matters, but I developed heartburn and had to stop taking it.
The urologist says surgery is not the answer. Wouldn't lifting the bladder facilitate urine control?
    F.R.
We're talking about two different causes of urine leakage urge incontinence and stress incontinence.
Urge incontinence is urine leakage due to a sudden contraction of the muscular bladder walls. The contraction is so abrupt and so forceful that it is impossible to hold back urine even with a mad dash to the bathroom. Often urge incontinence occurs with only a small volume of urine in the bladder.
Surgery does not correct urge incontinence.
Begin a bladder training program. For three consecutive days, go to the bathroom every two hours, whether you feel the need or not.
On the fourth day, add a half-hour to your schedule, visiting the bathroom every two-and-a-half hours.
