Viktige begivenheter Automatisering av DNA-sekvenseringen
Ved hjelp av roboter, nytt sekvenseringsutstyr, ny software for sekvensering og nytt arbeidsrom for de som anlyserer rådataene fra sekvenseringsmaskinen, har vi blitt istand til å sekvensere betydelig mer enn tidligere. Det kommer godt med da det er behov for sekvensering av flere tusen pasientprøver, spesielt innen familier med arvelig kreft. Minner om at hvert gen består av flere tusen enkeltelementer (baser). Det nye sekvenseringssystemet var i bruk bare de siste månedene i 2004, i dette tidsrommet ble ca. 4.000.000 enkeltbaser analysert. Prosessen har altså blitt betydelig automatisert og datamaskin hjelper til i tolkningen, men fortsatt må bioingeniører gjøre en manuell vurdering av hver enkelt base som genet består av.
Mer enn 50% av DNA-analysene utført ved MGM kommer fra andre regioner enn Helseregion Vest. Automatiseringen gjør oss i stand til å være konkurransedyktige innen slik testing i tiden framover. Aktiviteten ved DNA-laboratoriet økte med ca. 80% i 2004.
