I'm hoping this is some weird allergy since the sores only happen after I get the swelling. It sounds like erythema multiforme. Only a small percentage (perhaps 15%) of cases of this condition are triggered by herpes, and the herpes that triggers them is not the sexual herpes but lip cold sores. The rest of the cases are triggered either by drugs (penicillin, seizure medications) or by nothing at all. In other words, you have nothing to tell prospective partners about, especially if your tests were negative (and no, Acyclovir doesn't mask them.) I suggest you check with the doctor who ordered them to be sure of the results and implications, but if they're negative, that's it, and your erythema multiforme doesn't change that at all.

He had been seen for take evaluation previously, which was positive. He was given Sporonox and took 200 mg on Day 10. On Day 11, he woke up with this rash. It started on the ankles and then spread to the whole body sparing his face. He was afebrile, and the ER physician gave him 50mg IM of diphenhydramine and 40mg oral famotidine. He was seen at the clinic on Day 13; 50 mg of oral diphenhydramine was prescribed around the clock. Follow up visit indicates rash faded after 2 days of diphenhydramine. Rash did return when diphenhydramine was d/c so he has continued this for several days. The rash has now faded to pale pink. The vaccination site is healing beautifully and is now a scar.
