There is no known eczema cure, but herbs and other substances, like emu oil, have been found to be very effective for individuals who have not achieved the desired results from traditional medicine. The dry, itching skin that accompanies eczema may be helped with products based on emu oil and herbs. Alternative therapies using herbs may be effective for some people suffering from eczema. These guidelines offer some information about eczema, its causes, and some suggestions about alternative, or complementary therapies. Many patients have discovered that Western Medicine does not always have success with eczema. Conventional treatment and complementary treatments should not be consider an 'either/or' condition. The best therapy is the one that ones for an individual. See some dramatic pictures of a woman with eczema before using emu oil and after 1 and 3 weeks of applying emu oil to her neck and face.

Three midterms, extra household chores because his mom was on a business trip, and inventory at his part-time job had left Rick exhausted by the end of the week. But he wasn't just tired - the skin on the back of his neck and upper chest was beginning to get red and itchy, too. Not again, he thought - not another eczema flare! Your skin, which protects your organs, muscles, and bones and regulates your body temperature, can run into plenty of trouble while you're a teen. Acne occurs when your pores become clogged. But zits aren't the only skin problem you may have to worry about - have you ever tried a new type of soap and developed an itchy rash? That's your skin's way of telling you, "Hey, there's something in that soap I don't like - stop using it!" What Is Eczema?
Eczema (pronounced: ek -zeh-ma) is a group of skin conditions that cause skin to become irritated. Teens who have it may develop rashes more easily and more frequently than others. There are many forms of eczema, but atopic (pronounced: ay- tah -pik) eczema is the most common form. Doctors don't know exactly what causes atopic eczema, also called

FDA panel urges approval of new eczema drug
WASHINGTON (AP) The first new type of drug in decades to treat the troubling skin disease eczema moved a step closer to market Thursday as the government's scientific advisers unanimously declared Protopic ointment effective for both adults and children. But the Food and Drug Administration's advisory committee stopped short of declaring Protopic a first-line alternative to other eczema treatments like corticosteroids.

Dermatitis
Dermatitis
Dermatitis affects about one in every five people at some time in their lives. It results from a variety of different causes and has various patterns. The terms "dermatitis" and "eczema" are often used interchangeably. Dermatitis can be "acute" or "chronic" or both. Acute eczema refers to a rapidly evolving red rash which may be blistered and swollen. Chronic dermatitis refers to a longstanding irritable area. It is often darker than the surrounding skin, thickened (lichenified) and much scratched. Psychological stresses can provoke or aggravate dermatitis, presumably by suppressing normal immune mechanisms.
Acute dermatitis (allergy to adhesive plaster)
Chronic dermatitis (atopic eczema)
Some types of dermatitis
  • Atopic dermatitis is particularly prevalent in children; inherited factors seem important, as there is nearly always a family history of dermatitis or asthma. Irritant contact dermatitis is provoked by handling water, detergents, solvents or harsh chemicals, and by friction. Irritants cause more trouble in those who have a tendency to atopic dermatitis.

Gravitational Eczema
Gravitational dermatitis (or eczema Normally during walking the leg muscles pump blood upwards and valves in the veins prevent pooling. A clot in the deep leg veins (deep venous thrombosis or DVT) or varicose veins may damage the valves. As a result back pressure develops and fluid collects in the tissues. The affected leg is usually swollen, particularly after prolonged standing and during hot weather. Dermatitis can arise as discrete patches or affect the leg circumferentially. The affected skin is red and scaly, and may ooze, crust and crack. It is frequently itchy.

A few items I found interesting are below: Even MILD dehydration can slow down your metabolism by as much as 3% Thirst usually does not develop until 1-2% of body weight is lost through dehydration Athletic performance is decreased by 2% for a 2% loss in body weight through dehydration Once glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for 98% of dieters in a University of Washington Study. Dehydration is the number one trigger of daytime fatigue. Eczema
Eczema, also known as dermatitis, describes skin conditions where there is irritation or inflammation of the skin. It affects 1 in 12 people in the UK at some time in their life.
What is eczema?
There are two main categories of eczema. Contact eczema, also known as exogenous eczema, occurs when substances or chemicals cause irritation that leads to an allergic reaction in the skin. "Atopic" eczema (endogenous eczema), is when there is a genetic, or inherited, tendency to develop the condition.
The general symptoms of eczema
Eczema makes the skin itchy and dry and sometimes scaly. The skin can crack, becoming red and inflamed and leaving it prone to infection. Infection by bacteria living on the surface of the skin can cause weeping of fluid ("wet" eczema) and crusting or scabbing. The areas of the body that are affected differ depending on the type of eczema.
Causes of eczema
Often the cause of the eczema is unknown, or there may be a number of different factors working together. Eczema often runs in families, but it can not spread from one person to another.

SkinCell International Forum for Skin Disorders
An international non-profit discussion forum for ALL skin complaints including Acne, Eczema, Psoriasis, Rosacea and many others. Open to sufferers, their family and friends.
Origins of SkinCell
SkinCell International Forum for Skin Disorders was established in August 2002 because we saw that whilst there are many very informative and resourceful sites on the Web, very few concentrated on the psychological trauma that we skin sufferers face. The majority of those great sites specialise in a single skin condition, a few concentrate on all dermatological conditions, even fewer address the serious issue of patient well-being. Here at SkinCell we have attempted to make available to all skin sufferers and their families an open and free forum where they can discuss any skin disorder or disease they choose.
The Forum
SkinCell offers a lively and friendly Forum for its members including:
  • Skin and General Health discussions Member Profiles; including Username, Country of origin, personal avatars, home web site links, posting history etc

Eczema
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Eczema
Typical, mild dermatitis Eczema is a form of dermatitis , a skin irritation characterized by red, flaky skin, sometimes with cracks or tiny blisters. It is extremely itchy, but scratching damages the fragile skin and exacerbates the problem so it is important for people with eczema to try to leave the area alone.
Contents
  • Types Diagnosis Treatment edit
    Types
There are several causes of dermatitis, but the most common ones are related to allergies Atopic eczema , the most common, is caused by general systemic allergic reactions, as opposed to contact with an irritant. It is very common in people with related allergic conditions, including asthma or chronic hay fever Allergic contact dermatitis , as the name implies, is the result of direct contact with an irritant. One of the most common causes of this form are buttons and rivets in jeans, which contain nickel Irritant contact dermatitis is similar but is caused by a reaction to some chemical substance, often unrinsed detergents left on clothing or various household chemicals being handled. Often, the inflammation occurs mainly on the hands and feet, as the hands come in contact with most of the chemicals that a person may encounter, and the environment for shoe-clad feet is warm and moist, perfect for fungal infections to begin.

Icey
the unique, powerful, friendly, and lovable Viking Horse from Iceland
H ere this horse has been bred for more than 1000 years, and it went through a long and very successful adaptation process. On Iceland the Viking Horse has always been an integral part of the symbiosis between the landscape, plants, animals, micro-organisms, and of course humans, too. Sometimes the condition under which Iceys are kept in Iceland especially during the winter time seems not to be optimum. However, these horses are used to this situation, and they are strong enough to get along with it easily. T he situation worsens dramatically if Iceys have to leave Iceland. On the continent the symbiotic situation which the horses are used to is not existing any longer very often. They now have to overcome problems with different feeding, drinking water, housing, ecology, and also different energetic conditions. As a result many Iceys on the continent develop diseases which are virtually unknown to their sisters and brothers on Iceland. T he main and most money consuming health problem of the Icey is a syndrome which is called 'sweet itch' or 'summer eczema' because it mainly occurs in summer time. Numerous studies have been performed to find a good treatment regime for this nasty disease, but up to now only little work was done to find its real origin. So an allergy against the bites of midges which are not present on Iceland is often blamed to be the wrongdoer; but how could it then be that many Viking Horses which live in a real mosquito area are free of eczema?
