Quotations:
" Down with skepticism, up with awareness. " Label on a button at a MPD conference. " Every MPD patient in the country owes a personal debt of gratitude to Buddy [Braun]. He's the first ever to get a unit set up for these people, and all the other units around the country follow the trail he has blazed. " M. Keenan, New City article, 1995-JUN-22: " The Devil and Dr. Braun ." "...students often ask me whether multiple personality disorder (MPD) really exists. I usually reply that the symptoms attributed to it are as genuine as hysterical paralysis and seizures." Dr. Paul McHugh A " creature of the consulting room which patients and therapists manufacture. " Description of MPD by a member of the British False Memory Society " I have this head shrinker and he says...[MPD is]...deliberately induced because the CIA is where they started inducing it when after they brought all the Nazis over from Germany to run American Psychiatric Association....It is all mind control and all kinds of things to invent people with multiple personalities.... I believe the government has implanted some kind of a chip into my head where... [my thoughts are] monitored by Barbara Walters and these other women. And they take all my ideas...I think [Oprah] sits with her finger on the switch to the chip....several times I wondered if I had multiple personality disorder. In fact, or if I was just from another planet."

For enquiries and to order copies, send us an email to: DONALD ORDE recalls a long and eventful life in these memoirs. After serving fifteen years in the merchant navy he transfers to land-based employment in the Persian Gulf. Whether at sea or on land, he always has the uncanny knack of attracting the sort of adventures that most people would rather read about than experience. As a descendant of Admiral Duncan, Donald Orde is destined for a career at sea from an early age. He describes the rigours of life as a boy aboard the training ship Mercury , where he is made to scrub the decks on hands and knees and to watch his classmates being flogged while lessons continue uninterrupted in the same room. In 1932 he joins the merchant navy as an apprentice on the Fernmoor . Soon afterwards he is shipwrecked in freezing December seas off the coast of Newfoundland. Undaunted, he is assigned to a new ship and quickly rises through the ranks until he is appointed chief officer of the Pampas in 1944, taking part in the D-Day landings. A wartime shipboard romance has a happy ending, despite the heroine being torpedoed in the Atlantic and interned in Germany. Tales that involve colourful captains, unusual cargoes and miraculous escapes from certain death are recounted with cheerful good humour. After the war Donald Orde leaves the sea but not the world of shipping. He joins Gray Mackenzie in Bahrain as a cargo superintendent and eventually becomes general manager. During his time in the Middle East he sees the landscapes change from near-biblical appearance to replicas of Wimbledon-overseas and witnesses the development of transport from camels to Cadillacs. More adventures follow, such as the mystery of the disappearing planes and the incident of the exploding ships.

Overview of MPD / DID
The term "Multiple Personality Disorder" (MPD) has been largely replaced by "Dissociative Identity Disorder" (DID). As the former name implies, MPD/DID is a mental condition in which 2 or more personalities appear to inhabit a single body. A simple definition of DID by two conservative Christian counselors, Arthur Zeilstra and Janet Howden, is: " Dissociation is an act of disconnecting, locking the memory or pain in a 'suitcase' and storing the 'suitcase' in the back of the brain. Dissociation Identity Disorder is the phenomena of completely disconnecting oneself from a memory (or memories) and the emotions around the memory(ies), creating a separate identity to hold memories and emotions. " Bob Larson of Bob Larson Ministries , a fundamentalist counter-cult and anti- Occult group, defines MPD as follows: " MPD is a mental condition in which the personality becomes fragmented ("dissociated") into two or more distinct identities, each of which may become dominant and control behavior from time to time to the exclusion of the others. These identities are called "alter personalities" (often simply "alters") and each maintains its own integrity of characteristics and habits. Each has its own age, name, sex, intelligence, and personal tastes. "

Depressed after the birth of her second son, Patricia Burgus sought therapy from Dr. Bennett Braun. Burgus says the doctor, through repressed-memory therapy , led her to believe among other things that she possessed 300 personalities and sexually abused her children. Braun's license to practice in Illinois has been suspended.

How can I help?

jdcard@inreach.com INTRODUCTION As we discussed the possibility of writing this, Carol suggested that we introduce it with this letter I sent to her near the end of her fifth stay at the hospital during her recovery: Carol, Yesterday went well here, we were at the corps (church) most of the day. Your telephone call was very uplifting for me, especially when Master chose to speak with me. I'm sorry I didn't recognize Master immediately, he caught me by surprise. I had assumed that Master preferred to stay in the background and not have direct contact with the outside world. Once again I am reminded that it is risky to assume anything. So I lost what I consider to be a precious opportunity to strengthen my relationship with the "Master" part of you. Still, it was very encouraging to have Master volunteer to talk with me; I hope that our future contacts are less disappointing for both of us. It is so good to see the progress as God continues His healing process within you! I am getting more excited about you and our relationship as each week goes by. There will still be difficult times for both of us, but I rejoice in the positive changes they are bringing to our lives.

Dissociative identity disorder appears to be a rather common mental disorder. It can be found in 3 to 4% of people hospitalized for other mental health disorders and in a sizable minority of people in drug abuse treatment facilities. However, some authorities believe that many cases of this disorder reflect the influence of therapists on suggestible people.

This doesn't mean it's an easy task, but it is our way of healing. This is the main reason I have put this group together!
