Introduction
Definition Epidemiology Clinical-pathological correlates and pathogenesis ... More articles on Geriatrics Introduction Developments in the past three decades have led to a radical rethinking of the association between cerebrovascular disease (CVD) and dementia, and set the stage for a reconceptualisation of dementia from vascular causes. We will review recent developments in the concept of vascular dementia (VaD), and discuss its importance as a common, and potentially preventable, form of dementia. Definition There are two obvious steps in the diagnosis of VaD diagnosis of dementia per se and establishment of its vascular aetiology. Dementia is defined as a multifaceted decline in cognitive functioning causing impaired functioning in daily life.

Dementia Diagnostic Clinics
Obtaining an accurate diagnosis of a dementing disorder is often the most important first step made by patients and families in their efforts to secure the education and support needed to cope with Alzheimer's disease. Diagnostic clinics provide evaluation and management services to patients and their families. A typical patient will undergo neuropsychological testing, a comprehensive history and physical examination and, if appropriate, laboratory and x-ray testing during the initial evaluation. The clickable map below highlights the dementia diagnostic clinics in Wisconsin. Those affiliated with the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Institute are symbolized by the WAI logo and all others are symbolized by a red triangle.
