Cryptosporidium
Cryptosporidium is a protozoan parasite and a leading cause of infectious diarrhoea in humans and cattle. Transmission occurs through animal-to-human or human-to-human contact, by recreational exposure to contaminated water or land, or by consumption of contaminated water and food. Infection is also frequently associated with foreign travel. The most common symptom is watery diarrhoea, which can range from mild to severe. Severe illness can occur in immunocompromised patients.
