The American Life League advises against using emergency contraception.
http://www.all.org/issues/bc05.htm
BIRTH CONTROL Emergency Contraception: The Morning-After Pill What is it? Emergency contraception (also known as the morning-after pill) is a high dosage of the birth control pill. It is recommended to be used after sexual intercourse, over a period of 72 hours, to achieve the goal of preventing or ending pregnancy. There are three different ways birth control pills are currently being promoted for this use: progesterone alone, estrogen alone, or both of these artificial steroids together. These are the same steroids found in the typical birth control pill. Where did this idea come from? How do emergency contraception/morning-after pills work? The emergency contraceptive/morning-after pill has three possible ways in which it can work:
  • Ovulation is inhibited, meaning the egg will not be released;
  • The normal menstrual cycle is altered, delaying ovulation; or
  • It can irritate the lining of the uterus so that if the first and second actions fail, and the woman does become pregnant, the tiny baby boy or girl will die before he or she can actually attach to the lining of the uterus. In other words, if the third action occurs, her body rejects the tiny baby and he or she will die. This is called a chemical abortion.

What is Sex? Contraception In an emergency: contraception after sex ... Feedback
    Contraception
Someday, you may want to have a baby. It may be when you're 18, 28, or even 38. Or you may never want to have a child. Any parent will tell you that a baby will bring unimaginable joy to your life (and, of course, sleepless nights, screaming and dirty diapers) but pregnancy should happen when you are ready. For now, it's a good idea to use contraception to avoid an unplanned pregnancy, until you're sure you want and are ready to have a baby. Sex is such an amazing experience, so the last thing you want in the back of your head is, "oh God, what will I do if we get pregnant." That's right - we. Contraception is a shared responsibility of both partners. And remember, it only takes one "oops" to get pregnant. So, make sure you find a contraception method that works best for you and your partner. There's a lot more to contraception than just condoms and the Pill. For a lot of couples, these two are the obvious choice; they're effective, safe and pretty easy to use. But these days, there are literally dozens of options to choose from. There's even some exciting and highly effective new methods like the Patch or the vaginal ring.

    Teens Sexual Health Birth Control
One of the toughest decisions that a lot of teens face is whether to have sex. If teens decide to have sex, it means they must also take responsibility to protect themselves from unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). In the United States, the teenage pregnancy rate is higher than in many other countries. Approximately 1 million teens become pregnant every year and about 78% of them don't plan on becoming pregnant. In addition to preventing unplanned pregnancies, people who have sex must protect themselves from STDs. For those having sex, condoms must always be used every time to protect against STDs. The most effective method of birth control is abstinence , which means no sexual intercourse. Abstinence is the only way that couples can be 100% sure they will not have to deal with pregnancy or STDs. For couples who do choose to have sex, there are many effective birth control methods to choose from. Check the articles below to learn some important information about different methods of birth control. You may be surprised - some popular methods aren't as effective as people might think. The Politics of Contraceptive Research by Judith Richter with Sarah Sexton NEW!
According to the authors "From what is known about immune responses in general, however, immuno-contraceptives are likely to be unreliable as far as an individual is concerned and to entail an unprecedented potential for abuse; severe health risks cannot be discounted. Anti-fertility “vaccines” are thus a clear example of the impact “population control” has had on contraceptive research."
The Problematics of Postmodern Culture within Disciplinary Liberalism: The Norplant Case by Philip W. Jenks NEW!
According to the author "In the following work, I examine the specific mechanisms by which the categories of public and private are constituted within the frameworks of postmodern fragmentation of human identity and the world political economy of disciplinary liberalism. By examining the case of Norplant, I hope to illuminate not only the value and limits of previous theorization of these issues, but also to develop an understanding of the possibility for democratic political action(s)."
Contesting Claims on the Safety and Acceptability of Anti-Fertility Vaccines by Anita Hardon
This paper describes the controversy surrounding anti-fertility vaccines, focusing on the anti-hCG vaccine. It deals first with the rationale that researchers give for the development of anti-fertility vaccines, and the specific requirements that they set for the new contraceptive method.

What is Sex? Contraception Sexually Transmitted Infections ... Feedback
For the most part, adults are pretty predictable. They usually keep the same friends, the same partner and the same job from year to year. Their lives just aren't always changing that much. Teenagers, on the other hand, are constantly changing. Each year, you may feel as though you are a completely new person. There will be changes to your body, of course, but you are also changing and growing as a person. You're experiencing new things and new feelings. You're becoming independent. You can start to make your own decisions and think for yourself. If you're lucky, you may even be starting to get a good feel for what you want out of life. At times, these changes will be fresh and exciting. At other times they will be terrifying. But most of these new experiences - take your first kiss, for example - will probably fall somewhere in the middle. With these changes will come questions, and the more answers you have, the better off you'll be. That's what this website is all about - answering questions and keeping you ahead of the game when it comes to sex and sexuality.

Being told about the emergency contraception, she says, "in that time of total devastation, it was a relief." But, as

WRRAP raises money for low income women of all ages, ethnicities and cultural backgrounds who are unable to pay for either emergency contraception or a safe and legal abortion. Our services are provided free of charge to clinics all over this nation. All clinics are State-of-the-Art and most are members of the National Abortion Federation (NAF) or the National Coalition of Abortion Providers (NCAP). Both organizations have high standards for affiliation. The money is never asked to be repaid, nor do we judge the woman or her situation... We just help her.
Only 17 states provide financial assistance to poor women seeking abortions; 14 of them do so under court order. Over 87% of the US counties do not have services even though 34% of all women ages 15-44 live in those counties. Over 31% of US metropolitan areas have no providers. 8 of 10 residency programs don't require doctors to learn abortion procedures. What's more, 50% of chief residents have no clinical experience or training for a life-saving abortion. A study conducted with 244 family practice residency programs found most graduates receive little or no clinical training in reproductive health care, including diaphragm fitting, or IUD insertion and removal. Over 50% of unwanted pregnancies are the result of failed birth control. Between 1994 and 2000 the overall abortion rate dropped by 11%. However, the rate for poor women increased by 7%.

Home Information for Teens ... How to Avoid Pregnancy Contraception Most young people agree that the teen years shouldn't be about pregnancy, parenting, midnight feedings, and diapers. Not ready to be someone's father or mother? It's simple: don't have sex or use contraception correctly each time you do have sex. Far too many unplanned pregnancies happen because of indifference or simply thinking "it won't happen to me." The plain truth is that four out of ten girls get pregnant by age 20. And they didn't do it alone. Remember, sex has consequences.
