SEE UPDATE BELOW My name is Dominie Soo Bush. I am a piano teacher and church musician in Green Cove Springs, Florida. I developed fibromyalgia in 1982 due to severe emotional stress and job stress while working as a legal secretary. I suffered with debilitating muscle pain and stiffness, fatigue, insomnia and depression. I consulted doctors in many cities. They all prescribed drugs, but nothing really helped and I felt like a zombie! I tried chiropractic, physical therapy and massage therapy and took vitamins by the handfuls. It was all very frustrating, not to mention expensive. I also had serious hormonal, neurological and allergy problems. I later developed CFIDS after an encounter with an especially nasty virus.

One mom's journey through the world of chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and a host of other invisible chronic illnesses. Help, hope and encouragement for your own journey.
http://www.momsinflight.bravepages.com
Welcome to Moms In Flight
Moms in Flight is for anyone suffering from a Chronic Illness of any kind and a mom... moms-to-be, moms raising children right now, Grandmoms, moms with grown children, empty-nest moms... in the midst of that illness.  Let's face it! Whether you're just starting a family, or your children are grown, we can all benefit from each other and be uplifting to one another. You may be at the beginning of your journey and just finding out what you're dealing with.  You may be in the middle of your journey:  knowing what you have, but not sure what to do next.  Or, you may be near the end of your journey:  you know what it is, you've accepted it, and, well, now what Moms in Flight is a place to come for encouragement, help in day-to-day living with chronic illness, and eventually, "Soaring Above Chronic Illness." We don't profess to have all the answers.  We're still finding them out for ourselves.  But we want this to be a place of encouragement.  A place where we all can feel safe, warm and cared for.  Let's face it.  Being ill with a chronic illness, especially one that is invisible to the outside world, can be very frustrating. You can check out The Journey, where we introduce ourselves and, well, tell you a little about our respective journeys.

Defining and Managing Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
    Summary
Under its Evidence-based Practice Program , the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is developing scientific information for other agencies and organizations on which to base clinical guidelines, performance measures, and other quality improvement tools. Contractor institutions review all relevant scientific literature on assigned clinical care topics and produce evidence reports and technology assessments, conduct research on methodologies and the effectiveness of their implementation, and participate in technical assistance activities. Overview Reporting the Evidence Methodology Findings ... Availability of the Full Report
    Overview
This evidence report is a systematic review that summarizes scientific literature about the following aspects of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) in adults:
    • Case definitions. Prevalence and natural history. Treatment.
In an effort to organize and clarify this body of research knowledge, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) contracted for this evidence-based review with the San Antonio Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC). The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases nominated the topic for an evidence-based review. Return to Contents
    Reporting the Evidence
Initially, a broad-ranging list of more than 20 questions was considered for the evidence report. Seventeen technical experts from the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom used a Delphi consensus process to prioritize questions that the evidence report could realistically address, given the enormity of the data, and the limits on time and resources. The scope of the report was narrowed to the following high priority questions:

    131. Defining And Managing Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Clinical Focus

    September 2001 Clinical Focus*
    • What are the existing case definitions of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) in adults? Which case definitions, if any, have been substantiated and/or validated with reliably discriminating constellations of symptoms in adults? What are the prevalence and natural history of CFS in adults? Do controlled studies in adults show that particular therapies improve clinical symptoms of CFS when compared to placebo, no therapy, or each other?
