    Candida albicans
Candida albicans is a dimorphic fungus, i.e. it can take two forms. Most of the time it exists as oval, single yeast cells, which reproduce by budding. Most yeasts do not produce mycelia (a mass of branching, threadlike hyphal filaments), but Candida has a trick up its sleeve. Normal room temperatures favour the yeast form of the organism, but under physiological conditions (body temperature, pH, and the presence of serum) it may develop into a hyphal form. Pseudohyphae , composed of chains of cells, are also common. In the video, you can see yeast cells and a few elongated cells which have begun to grow into a hypha:

Could you tell me more about it; how to detect it, its symptoms and cure (diet?)? Thanks, T. Dear T.- Candida, or yeast, occurs naturally in our bodies, in balance with the rest of our internal flora and fauna. Strictly speaking, yeast are a member of the plants known as fungi or molds. Given the right conditions for replication, yeast is capable of explosive growth (think about homemade bread rising). Candida grows best in a mildly acidic environment. Taking birth control pills, some antibiotics, multiple pregnancies, diabetes, and menstruation can raise or lower your body's pH level to provide a favorable environment for growth of candida. Some people also believe that aspects of our external environment allow for a proliferation of candida in our bodies. Examples include stress, inadequate nutrition, pollution, steroids, antibiotics and hormones in the meat we eat, sugar rich foods and refined carbohydrates. The list of physical problems in which Candida has been implicated as a major causative factor is very long. Here are some of the conditions thought to possibly be the result of Candida's activity: vaginitis; thrush; endometriosis; athlete's foot; migraine headaches; fatigue; constipation; bloating; allergy; sensitivities to perfume, fumes, chemical odors and tobacco smoke; irritability; depression; weak muscles; abdominal pain; diarrhea; swelling in the joints; sore throat; etc.

Candida maltosa belongs to so-called "budding yeasts". Other members of this group are Candida glabrata, C. albicans, C. tropicalis, C. guillermondii, C. pseudotropicalis, Kluyveromyces lactis Saccharomyces cerevisiae etc. Schizosaccharomyces pombe are an example of so-called "fission yeasts". Candida: the mercury connection(snipped from annotated bibliography)
Methyl mercury is more toxic to some body processes than inorganic mercury. Mercury from amalgam is methylated by bacteria, galvanic electric currents(35), and candida albicans in the mouth and intestines(51,81,98,182,225). Oral bacteria streptococommus mitior,S.mutans, and S.sanguis were all found to methylate mercury(81).
Mercury exposure through fillings appears to be a major factor in chronic fatigue syndrome(CFS) through its effects on ATP and immune system(lymphocute reactivity, neutraphil activity, effects on T-cells and B-cells) and its promotion of growth of candida albicans in the body and the methylation of inorganic mercury by candida to the extremely toxic methyl mercury form which like mercury vapor crosses the blood-brain barrier and also damages and weakens the immune system(222,225,226,234,235,265,293,60,313,314,342,368,369, 404),
Replacement of amalgam fillings usually results in elimination of candida(26,35,404,etc.), [this was for adults but similar goes for kids and mercury thimerosal]

    Candida albicans and candida infection
    Candida albicans infection
Candida is a conditionally-pathogenic fungus. It is all around us, normally found on skin, in the mouth, gut, and other mucus membranes. It causes infection when antibiotics or other factors reduce our natural resistance to it's overgrowth. Most candida infections are superficial, limited to mucus membranes Disseminated infection by Candida of internal organs can occur in severely immunocompromised patients, such as those with cancer, serious burns, or AIDS. This is a much more serious condition than superficial Candida infection. Disseminated Candida infection is usually determined by the presence of candida in the blood, and is potentially life-threatening. It should not be confused with superficial candida infections, which are not life-threatening. The two classes of infection are similar in that some of the same antifungal drugs may be used, and both can be difficult to eradicate.

    What is Candida
Candida Albicans is a yeast infestation, called a fungus. We all have intestinal candida and when everything is in balance candida helps maintain our immune system by controlling unfriendly organisms. But if the body's balance is upset candida fungi may multiply and promote the development of toxins which can cause a range of unhealthy conditions, like: asthma, bladder infections, energy loss, burning/puffy eyes, fatigue, food cravings, hay fever, heartburn, hyperactivity, insomnia, migraine, mouth infections, rashes, sore throat, thrush and thyroid failure.
    Diet Treament of Candida
Following a careful diet is one way to reduce the effects of candida. The aim of an anti-candida diet is to avoid foods that "feed" the yeast infestation.
Foods to Avoid on an Anti-Candida Diet
These include : sugar of all kinds (eg. brown, white, syrup, molasses, honey, fructose, lactose, maltose, dextrose etc.), ready to eat cereals (except Shredded Wheat and purpose made options like Kashi), white flour or white flour products, cakes, cookies, pasta, cornflour, cows milk, diet drinks, alcoholic beverages, tea, coffee, mushrooms, fermented or pickled foods (eg. vinegar, pickles, chutney, soy sauce), all dry roasted nuts (cashews have a lot of yeast), potato chips, pretzels and junk food, bacon, salt pork and lunch meats and cheese of all kinds.

    Candida
    Versiedatum: augustus 2005
