This site is dedicated to the millions of you who suffer every day with the varied and debilitating effects of candida or yeast infections that comes from Candida albicans commonly known as candida. It is speculated that 80%-90% of the population is affected by a systemic yeast infection (men, women and children). Systemic yeast infections or candida may well be the unknown epidemic of the day and are caused by the use of antibiotics. This insidious candida yeast infection morphs from the innocent Candida albicans when a person takes antibiotics and this candida overgrowth gains strength every day; robbing us of our vitality and health until we are forced to deal with conditions like oral thrush , night sweats, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, recurrent yeast infections, Chrohn's disease, diabetes, Lupus, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and Fibromyalgia. Yeast infections have been thought of in the traditional sense as a vaginal yeast infection - something that only women had to worry about, but men can get a male yeast infection or male candida infection, too.

C. albicans pilot project
This sequencing centre plans on publishing the completed and annotated sequences in a peer-reviewed journal as soon as possible. Permission of the principal investigator should be obtained before publishing analyses of the sequence/open reading frames/genes on a chromosome or genome scale. The Sanger Institute carried out a pilot sequencing project on the Candida albicans strain 1161 genome in collaboration with Prof. Duncan Shaw at the University of Aberdeen. A set of 10 cosmids was sequenced for this pilot project. The project was funded by Beowulf Genomics For more details on the mapping project see A Candida albicans Genome Project: Cosmid Contigs, Physical Mapping, and Gene Isolation.

Improved Aviculture Management May Prevent Candidiasis in Birds
Gary D. Butcher and Richard D. Miles Candida albicans , the causative fungus of candidiasis, is normally present in small numbers in the upper digestive tract of birds, and is considered harmless. During periods of stress, however, the fungus can grow rapidly causing a sometimes deadly disease. Besides candidiasis, this disease is also referred to as crop mycosis, moniliasis, thrush, and oidiomycosis. Affected birds lose weight, regurgitate frequently, and act listless. Other signs include reduced growth rate in young birds, diarrhea, and delayed emptying and enlargement of the crop. Cheesy white mouth lesions are another common sign. These lesions resemble those of vitamin A deficiency and proliferative lesions observed in the wet form of avian pox. Severe oral lesions may become obstructive and interfere with normal respiration and feeding, resulting in debilitation and unthriftiness. The prognosis in these cases is poor. Aside from mechanical impairment of food passage, involvement of the crop results in a specific condition termed sour crop. A grayish white layer or pseudomembrane will commonly cover the crop lining, which may be ulcerated and inflamed. The crop wall will be thickened and opaque and birds will regurgitate food because of a loss of crop wall tone. Regurgitated food may be seen on the face or feathers of the head and neck.

MedicFlow Clinic Helbredsanalyse • Smerteterapi Candida / Lavt Blodsukker.
venstre side under ribbene

Candida Protocol Start with local treatment (applied on the nipple) with: Gentian violet Use once a day for 4 to 7 days. If pain is gone after 4 days, stop gentian violet. If better, but not gone after four days, continue for 7 days. Stop after 7 days no matter what. If not better at all at 4 days, stop the gentian violet, continue with the ointment as below and call. Gentian violet comes as a 1% solution in water. It also usually dissolved in 10% alcohol, as gentian violet is not soluble in pure water. This amount of alcohol is negligible, as the baby will only get a drop of gentian violet. Apparently some pharmacists will dissolve it in glycerine instead of alcohol. 2% gentian violet should not be used. Plus: 2. APNO (All Purpose Nipple Ointment) as below:
3. Grapefruit seed extract (not grape seed extract), 250 mg (usually 2 tablets) three times a day orally (taken by the mother), seems to work well in many cases. If preferred the liquid extract can be taken orally: 5 drops in water three times/day (though this is not as effective). GSE can be used before trying fluconazole, instead of fluconazole or in addition to fluconazole in resistant cases. See below for information on grapefruit seed extract used directly on the nipples. 5. For deep breast pain, ibuprofen 400 mg every four hours may be used until definitive treatment is working (maximum daily dose is 2400 mg/day).

The overall goal of our research is to discover and investigate the underlying mechanisms of pathogenesis for both protozoan and fungal pathogens at the molecular, cellular, and organismic levels. Our principal genomic interest is to use the genomic sequence of the pathogenic fungus Candida albicans to develop DNA microarrays that will allow genome-wide expression analysis. We are using this approach to identify and characterize the principal genetic factors associated with commensal vs. pathogenic infections, and in the context of mucosal and systemic disease. Our immediate applications of DNA microarrays are to:
  • determine the patterns of gene expression in different disease presentations and in lesions in different host tissues.
  • understand the complex relationship between growth and metabolism and the expression of particular virulence traits.

Candida:

Candida is a yeastlike fungus that is present in the mouth, intestines, esophagus, throat and genital tract. Under normal circumstances, it inhabits these areas and lives in balance with other bacteria and yeast in the body. However, certain conditions (for example a weakened immune system) can cause it to multiply and cause an infection which travels through the bloodstream to other areas of the body.
Essential Oils Suggested for Treatment
Patchouli

Suggestions for Use:
  • Add ten drops of essential oil to the bath and soak for fifteen minutes In the case of Vaginitis (the result of Candida infecting the vagina) massage the abdomen and lower back with essential oil diluted in a carrier oil

This month's fungus is Candida albicans , cause of most "yeast infections" in humans.
For the rest of my pages on fungi, please click TomVolkFungi.net I can hear you thinking, "Well this is certainly a change from the usual fungus of the month." I'm teaching Medical Mycology again this semester, so I thought I'd include the most commonly discussed of the human pathogenic fungi. Judging by the frequency of commercials on television, yeast infections are a very common cause of disease and discomfort, especially among women. Most cases of yeast infection in the United States are caused by Candida albicans . "Yeast" is the term for a fungus that exists as a single-celled organism rather than as hyphae. There are about 500 species of yeasts in 60 genera, or about 1000 species of yeasts or yeast-like organisms. Some fungi are called yeast-like because they exist as a yeast for part of their life cycle, but can be hyphal for a significant portion of it. The terms yeast and yeastlike are vernacular terms for unicellular fungal organisms that reproduce by budding. This is an inadequate definition, mainly because

What is Yeast Infection?
Yeast infection is caused by a fungus. Certain types of yeast may be present in harmless amounts in the mouth, bowels, vagina, and skin. Under certain conditions, an overgrowth of yeast can occur. A yeast infection may cause itching and burning within the vagina and on the outer parts of the female genitals (vulva). What are the signs and symptoms of Yeast?
Symptoms may vary from very mild to severe and may include:
  • Itching and/or burning.
  • White, thick, clumpy discharge.
  • If an odor is present, it is often not unpleasant.
  • Vulvar redness and swelling.
  • Discomfort during or after sexual intercourse.
  • Pain or burning when passing urine.
How is Yeast Diagnosed (Identified)?
Your doctor or health care worker will look for common skin changes of the vulva and vagina. A sample of your discharge is looked at under a microscope to correctly diagnose a yeast infection. Sometimes a culture is needed to make the diagnosis. There are other types of vaginal and vulvar problems that can cause the same symptoms as a yeast infection such as itching, burning, and discharge. Therefore it is important that a doctor or health care worker make a correct diagnosis and advise you on the options for treatment that will work best for you. What is the Cause of Yeast?
