Cancer Genome Anatomy Project
The Cancer Genome Anatomy Project (CGAP) is an interdisciplinary program established and administered by the National Cancer Institute ( NCI ) to generate the information and technological tools needed to decipher the molecular anatomy of the cancer cell.
From CGAP's inception in 1996, NCBI been a key participant in bioinformatics planning, data tracking, data archiving, and analytical tool development and implementation. NCBI's role in CGAP has been constantly evolving to meet the demands of changing and expanding raw data sources, as well as the needs of the scientific community.
The information below highlights NCBI's contributions to CGAP. "characterizing genes" NCBI collaborates closely with NCI as the CGAP pipeline generates large numbers of expressed sequence tags (EST), all of which are deposited into dbEST , and subsequently incorporated into UniGene and HomoloGene . Gene-based, manual annotations may also be added via an interface to

109. Holistic Alternative Treatments Like Guided Imagery - Add The Power Of The Mind
Holistic and alternative cancer treatment program integrates with conventional medicine, using guided imagery, nutrition, and journaling as tools known for being able to strengthen the immune system. Books and tapes.
http://www.ONEhealthPublishing.com

Medical science recognizes
a mind-body component to health and illness.
The body is not a separate entity from the mind, but linked to it.
... just as the physical response of a blush can be linked to an uncomfortable thought,
... or an increased heart rate can be linked to watching an intense scene in a movie. Science has a name for this.
It is called psychoneuroimmunology
If you would like to discover what your body might be trying to communicate through
teenage depression, chronic pain, insomnia, rheumatoid arthritis symptoms, or cluster headaches, consider something as easy as listening to a wonderful session of guided imagery. Some call this process visualization, others call it guided meditation,
but no matter what label is given, the act of offering soothing symbolic messages
to inspire the body's innate healing actions, can be added to your own search for wellness.
Just ask yourself: what "medicine" could be easier than curling up with a soothing voice
on a comfortable chair with a set of headphones?!

Grapes Or Grain? Wine Drinking May Reduce Colon Cancer Risk; Beer, Hard Liquor Provide No Benefit
NEW YORK, October 16, 2000 In a finding that counters conventional thinking about the relationship between alcohol use and colorectal cancer, drinking at least one glass of wine per week may actually protect against the development of the disease, whereas beer or mixed drinks do not. Results of this new research were presented at the 65th Annual Scientific Meeting of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), October 16 18th. Summary of Swiss study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology that studied 1300 women.

INVOLUNTARY SMOKING CAUSES BREAST CANCER TOO
Being around people who are smoking, even as little as one hour a day, can almost triple a woman's risk of contracting breast cancer, the second leading cause of deaths among all American women, and the leading cause of death among middle-aged women. This is the finding of a new study Dr. Alfredo Morabia recently published in the American Journal of Epidemiology. Morabia headed a team of researchers from the University Hospital in Geneva, Switzerland, that analyzed the smoking habits and exposure of nearly 1300 women. Among their findings:
  • Just smoking fewer than 10 cigarettes a day was enough to double a woman's risk of breast cancer.
  • Smoking 10 to 19 cigarettes a day saw the risk jump almost five fold.
  • Women who were exposed to cigarette smoke for one hour per day for 12 consecutive months nearly tripled their risk of contracting this deadly disease. More women die of breast cancer than from any other cancer. It is now the second leading cause of death in American women. Last year doctors diagnosed cancer of the breast in 182,000 women, and 46,000 died from it. It kills more middle-age women than any other disease. Every fifteen minutes at least three women will develop breast cancer and one will die.
