Robert Burns was born into a farming family at Alloway in Ayrshire in 1759. He died in Dumfries at the early age of 37. This site is based on material by or relating to 'Scotland's Bard' which is held by the National Library of Scotland (except where otherwise stated). When the family seems to be breaking down he realises he could be in danger of losing his comfortable billet and takes drastic action to secure his future. The family don't realise that their existence and happiness has been smoothed over by this apparent guardian angel. KEPT: The second story to begin with, appears to be in the style of Stephen King's 'Misery'. Following an abortive one-night stand, a vengeful woman holds an innocent man captive. All is not as it seems. Maxine, movie camera in hand, is recording the man's agony for her movie. She is also the caretaker of an apartment block that is home to an increasingly bizarre range of residents.

Big Baby
BIG BABY collects, for the very first time, all of Burns's "Big Baby" stories in one handy collection, in glorious and oversized black and white. It includes "Teen Plague" (from RAW Vol. II #3), which served as the inspiration for Burns's current masterpiece, the ongoing BLACK HOLE. It also features the very first appearance of Big Baby from RAW #5 (never-before collected) and the classics "Curse of the Molemen" and "Blood Club" (here restored to the pristine black-and-white malevolence they were destined for).
BIG BABY is, of course, a odd young boy named Tony with a hyperactive imagination and fear of the dark. Rightfully so, as the stories in this book indicate...

I t wasn't until last year that I realised Paper Tiger had re-released this superb Dragon's World volume of one of the UK's best SF cover artists, Jim Burns. Prior to this, the only chance I had to see this book was through a library request. My reaction then is still pretty much the same as now. You get lost in this book. The art is that good and it's about time some computer software firm that specialises in computer wallpaper arranged to have these paintings decorate your computer screen. Of course, you could always buy the book.
Those of you who picked up his later volume, 'Transluminal', have either got this book already, got this latter edition cos yours is worn out or eager to see some of Jim Burns' early work. Just browsing through this book is likely to make anyone a fan of his cover art. Burns is at home painting exotic spacecraft as he is with peculiar landscapes, futuristic cities, aliens and humans.

O R E G O N As Oregon's gateway to the scenic Steens Mountain, Burns has much to offer the outdoor enthusiast. Burns is a friendly cowboy town located at the heart of Oregon's wide open range lands in Harney County. Burns, Oregon can rightfully claim the title of the most "away from it all" town in the nation, since Harney County, the ninth largest county in America, is bigger than many eastern states. D owntown Burns has many opportunities for viewing arrowhead, rock and artifact exhibits at the many galleries and stores. The abundance of fossils, agate and thunder eggs attract rockhounds from far and wide to Harney County. Be sure to take in the Harney County Historical Museum on your visit. The Museum features Harney County's Old West roots, with early cowboy photos, ranching facts, handmade quilts and a turn of the century kitchen exhibit. T he Malheur National Wildlife Refuge is 30 miles south of Burns on US 205. Established in 1908, the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge is nearly 185,000 acres in size. A nationally respected birdwatcher's mecca, it provides key habitat for thousands of nesting and migrating birds. Be sure to bring binoculars and a field guide - on a good day in the spring, a birder can see over 100 species. Over 250 species of birds make this wildlife area a regular stop. Trumpeter swans live in the refuge all year, and other birds, such as sandhill cranes, egrets, and great horned owls nest here. Stop at the Refuge visitor contact center for information, or just to see the bird museum.
