For most of my childhood and adolescence I believed that I had an enormous, elephantine skull. I didn't. Actually, I am told that my head is unusually small in comparison to my body. This is especially true after I put on another 20 kilos in weight. So, why was I wrong about the size of my head for such a long and critical period of my life? I am a cerebral narcissist. I derive my Narcissistic Supply from people's reactions to my intellectual achievements - real or fictitious. No wonder that I exaggerated the dimensions of the site and exclusive source of my life sustaining gratification. Children draw adults as giants. Budding cerebral narcissists misconstrue the size of their skulls. Possessing a distorted physical self-image is called a Body Dysmorphic Disorder. All narcissists have it to some degree. Somatic narcissists are especially prone to misjudge their bodies - either positively or negatively. They believe themselves to be physically irresistible, exuding sex and energy, statuesquely shaped, and, in general, stunning hunks. This grandiose self-image rarely corresponds with reality, though.

through this list, we can help and support one another in a warm and caring
way. BDD is a preoccupation or obsession with a defect in visual appearance,
whether that be an actual slight imperfection or an imagined one. It may
result in obsessing to the point of severe depression (sometimes including
thoughts about or attempts at suicide) over physical attributes. The
preoccupation usually causes clinically significant distress or impairment
in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.

Alternate Names : Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Pain Disorder Definition Pain disorder is persistent and chronic pain at one or more sites in which psychological factors are thought to play a role. Pain is one of the most common reasons that people seek medical attention. In pain disorder, the suffering is so severe that it impairs a person's ability to function. Furthermore, the pain itself is thought to be related to psychological factors, such as stress or unconscious conflict. Individuals with this illness may have other medical problems, though these fail to account fully for the pain. Unfortunately, pain that is "psychological" in nature is often stigmatized both by medical professionals and the general public. A poor understanding of the connections between mind and body can lead to the misperception that if pain has a psychological cause it isn't "real" and should be able to be controlled without medical or mental health treatment.

    Body Dysmorphic Disorder
    What is Body Dysmorphic Disorder
BDD is thought to be a subtype of obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is not a variant of anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa.
The person with an eating disorder says, "I am so fat." The person with BDD says, "I am so ugly."
Not yet an official diagnosis, but may achieve that status soon. Sufferers are excessively concerned about appearance, body shape, body size, weight, perceived lack of muscles, facial blemishes, and so forth. They are convinced these flaws exist in spite of reassurances from friends and family members who usually can see nothing to justify such intense worry and anxiety. BDD often includes social phobias. Sufferers are shy and withdrawn in new situations and with unfamiliar people.
BDD affects about two percent of the people in the United States. It strikes males and females equally. Seventy percent of cases appear before age eighteen.
