The Adaptive Winter Sports Program offers children 6-18 with chronic and/or life-threatening illnesses the opportunity to participate in various winter sports in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. Activities include alpine and Nordic skiing, as well as snowboarding and snow shoeing. Each participant is matched up with at least one instructor and all of the necessary equipment is provided free of charge. Our Adaptive Winter Sports Program is coordinated by Ranch staff, but the magic that takes place on the slopes is made possible entirely through the efforts of our many Winter Volunteers! All of our Instructors are trained by the Double H Ranch through the PSIA method. Our professional Ski Patrol and Lift Operators ensure safety on the slope, and our gracious Lodge Hosts make sure the fire is blazing. A typical day entails the students’ arrival at 9:30am to meet up with their instructor and get-equipped. From 10am to noon, the lift operates to provide access to the slope. After an hour lunch, it’s back out to the slope, for another two hours of instruction, before day’s end.
