Fungal infections, also known as mycotic infections, may affect the skin surfaces or the internal organs of the body. The superficial mycotic infections are generally not serious and include such well-known disorders as Athlete's Foot or less commonly know - Tinea Pedis, caused by the dermatophyte Trichophyton. Deep mycotic infections such as histoplasmosis and candidiasis are potentially life-threatening. Other parasites that attack humans range in size from unicellular organisms such as Entamoeba histolytica to such multicellular forms as tapeworms and roundworms. Most parasitic infestations are encountered in the less-developed areas of the world where sanitation is not optimal. Indeed, parasitic infestations constitute major causes of death in regions of Central and South America, Africa, India, and Asia. Tinea Pedis The Genus Tinea - Basics information on Tineal Infections Tinea tih-nee-uh , is the medical / Latin name for a category of related fungal skin infections that disturb nails, the scalp, and any area of the skin where this parasite can take hold. This includes Athlete's Foot, Jock Itch and Ringworm, which is a fungus, not a worm.

The concept of smell, as it applies to humans, becomes less distinct when invertebrates and lower vertebrates - fish and amphibians, are considered, because many lower animals detect chemicals in the environment by means of receptors in various locations on the body, and no invertebrate possesses a chemo receptive structure resembling the vertebrate nasal cavity. For this reason, many authorities prefer to regard smell as distance chemoreception and taste as contact chemoreception. Olfaction by air-breathing vertebrates depends primarily on chemically sensitive nerves with endings in the lining - epithelium, of the nasal cavity. Mammals such as carnivores, which rely heavily on the sense of smell for locating food or for warning against predators, have intricately curled turbinal bones, which support the nasal epithelium, providing greater surface area, thus increasing olfactory sensitivity.

Athlete's foot is caused by an organism that lives on the skin and breeds best under warm, moist conditions. Although balmy climates probably encourage its growth, sweaty footwear is more often the culprit. Once you've got it, you'll need at least four weeks to make headway against a savage case. Worse, it will return unless you stamp out the conditions that caused it in the first place. So here are some tips on dealing with an active infection and some ways to guard against an encore.

Considering that this ailment is most often associated with stalwart Schwarzeneggerites, it's no wonder that most people don't refer to athlete's foot by its wimpy clinical name: "ringworm of the feet." But truth be told, this nasty little bugger could care less whether you pump up or punk out, whether your running is done in marathons or just into the kitchen for a halftime snack. If you want to see what encourages ringworm of the feet, just look down. Whether Nikes or ortho-walkers are your preferred footwear, your shoes are ringworm's idea of a happy home. "Athlete's foot is caused by a fungus that thrives in warm, moist conditions and the closed shoes present a good 'incubator' for these organisms," says Michael Ramsey, M.D., clinical instructor of dermatology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. The effectiveness of Heal Athlete's Foot to treat "tinea pedis" (athlete's foot), as well as nail fungus is unsurpassed. What is Athlete's Foot? - Athlete's foot is a very common fungal infection. It affects mostly men and young people attacking the area between the toes, soles of feet fingernails and toenails. This infection is caused by a fungus called tinea pedis. It lives off the dead skin cells, and thrives in moist, warm places, such as gyms, locker rooms, and swimming pools. Severe cases of athlete's foot may affect the groin. Symptoms are: burning sensation between toes, itching, redness, scaling, blistering.

Athlete's Foot www.Studenthealth.co.uk This is caused by a fungus growing between your toes (most commonly the 4th and 5th), or on the sole of your foot. It makes the skin itchy and scaly, and can turn the skin sore and red. The skin scales carry the infection so it can be picked up anywhere you might walk with bare feet. To treat it you can get some Canesten, Daktarin or Lamisil cream from the chemist. This should be put on at least twice daily, and continued for 1wk after the rash has cleared up. You should expect to use it for 2-4 weeks. Fungi like to grow in warm moist areas, follow the measures listed below and you can do a lot to cure the problem and prevent recurrence.
  • Wash your feet regularly with soap and water. Be meticulous about drying, especially between the toes. To ensure they are dry you could use an anti-fungal talcum powder, but remember that this will not cure any infection already present.
  • Wear a clean pair of socks every day. Choose cotton instead of nylon.
  • If possible do not wear the same pair of shoes every day, give them a rest and an airing, especially if your feet sweat a lot. Try to choose footwear that breathe. Only wear trainers for sports.

Apple cider vinegar Apple cider vinegar is probably the easiest remedy. Dab it on and let it dry.
Natural vitamin A Vitamin A from fish liver oil prevents of relieves infection. One application is usually sufficient. Vitamin A + D can also be used, or just straight fish live oil, like cod liver oil. It isn't as strong and the application will have to be repeated.
Wet clay If the infection is really severe, start with the #1 poison and infection antidote which is wet clay. Smear it on the affected areas, stick the foot in a plastic bag, put on a sock, and go to bed. The next morning, wash it off and repeat the next night if necessary. That will cure the acute infection. Then you continue with the vitamin A or cider vinegar. Just dab some on the affected areas. Raw garlic A slice of raw garlic will fight infection, but it will burn the skin if left on too long, so it is not the best remedy to leave on overnight.

    Athletes Foot and Fungus Problems
Athlete's foot typically affects the skin on the feet between the toes, but can move anywhere on the foot and can affect the toenails.
Athlete's foot is an infection of the skin and the nails, usually on the feet. The infection is usually found on the skin between the toes. Sometimes the fungal infection spreads to the toenails, which become thick and distorted. Fungi are plant organisms (tinea pedis) such as mold and mildew and grow best in conditions that are moist. Bacteria may thrive as a secondary infection, which worsens the symptoms of the disorder and makes it more difficult to cure. A fungal infection is one of the most difficult nail and foot conditions to treat.
It is common to catch athlete's foot from other people who have it by walking on floors that are moist or wet (e.g. at swimming pools and in shared bathroom facilities). Athlete's foot is also much more common in people who tend to have moist feet. Athlete's foot can also be spread by sharing other people's shoes or personal care items such as towels and wash cloths.

    Athlete's Foot
Athletes foot is a fungal infection that causes a red, scaly, itchy rash and foot odor in adolescents. It usually begins in between the toes and can spread to the instep. It is more common in children who have sweaty feet or who don't change their socks often enough. The main treatment for athlete's foot is the use of an over the counter antifungal cream, such as Tinactin or Lamisil. Wash and dry the feet thoroughly and then apply the cream to the rash and the surrounding skin twice a day for up to two to three weeks. You should continue the antifungal cream for at least a week after the rash goes away. Other steps you can take to help prevent athlete's foot is keep the feet dry by encouraging your child to go barefoot or wear sandals, wear cotton socks and change socks twice a day, and dry the feet carefully after showers.

Athlete's Foot is the name given to one of the more common conditions of the foot. Athlete's Foot is a skin condition that affects both athletes and non-athletes alike, but is more closely associated with individuals who are involved in sporting activities.
Athlete's Foot, or Tinea Pedis, thrives in areas with an ample supply of moisture and warmth. It manifests as an area of itching and sometimes cracking, which usually appears between the toes, most often between the fourth and fifth toes. From there, it can spread to the sides and occasionally across the bottom of the foot.
Treatment of Athlete's Foot must always begin with the elimination of the circumstances which facilitate the growth and spread of the organism. Feet should be carefully dried after showers, especially between the toes. Socks which wick moisture away, such as the Sof Sole Performance Lite from the foot should be worn. Foot powders can be used to further reduce moisture. Topical over-the-counter antifungals should be used only if the moisture causing the condition is addressed.
If the condition persists for more than seven to ten days, medical attention should be sought.
