Our vision is a world without AIDS Our mission is to ensure the development of safe, effective, accessible, preventive HIV vaccines for use throughout the world.
Implementing IT Infrastructure in Uganda
The development of a safe and effective preventive AIDS vaccine requires the involvement and expertise of many different sectors, one of which is information communications and technology. ICTs, including internet access and communications infrastructure, are critical components of AIDS vaccine clinical trials, some of which are conducted in geographically remote locations. The use of these technologies enables researchers to quickly acquire, process, exchange, and manage data, while simultaneously providing access to the latest research information through the internet, email, and real-time study data.
ICTs also benefit the communities in which vaccine trials take place by providing computer and networking training for local professionals, increasing demand for ICT-related services, and aiding in overall capacity-building.

AIDS stands for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome , a disease that makes it difficult for the body to fight off infectious diseases. The human immunodeficiency virus known as HIV causes AIDS by infecting and damaging part of the body's defenses against infection, namely the white blood cells known as CD4 helper lymphocytes (pronounced: lim- fuh-sites). The only known way for the HIV virus to be transmitted from one person to another is when it is spread from the inside of an infected person's body to the inside of another person's body. This can happen when infected fluids - such as semen (also known as "cum," the fluid released from the penis when a male ejaculates), vaginal fluids, or blood - are passed from one person to another. A person can become infected even if only tiny amounts of these fluids are spread. How does someone become infected? HIV can be spread through sexual intercourse if one of the partners has the virus. The virus can be spread through an infected person's blood, semen, and secretions from the cervix (part of a female's uterus) or vagina. HIV can travel to another person through cuts and sores on the penis, rectum (the last part of the intestine that connects to the anus), vagina, or skin around the genitals and probably the mouth and other mucous membranes. These cuts or sores are often so small that a person isn't even aware of them. Girls and guys who have a discharge (an abnormal fluid coming from the vagina or penis) or genital sores because they have a

AIDS and HIV Treatment Information
A word from the Founder of this site: I found out I was HIV positive in 1985, during the early years of the AIDS crisis, before there were any treatments to fight AIDS. Talk about scary. I was probably infected by the HIV virus a few years before that, and was already having symptoms of a weakened immune system. My T4 cells had fallen to around 350, and I had swollen lymph nodes. I didn't know what my viral load was – the quantity of AIDS virus in my blood – because there were no tests measuring HIV levels back then. Fortunately, AZT was approved in 1987, and from then on, a steady flow of HIV and AIDS treatments have been researched and approved. Today there are 22 drugs for the treatment of
