Blackouts after heavy drinking can be experienced by anyone, not just alcohol dependent ("alcoholic") individuals. Many college students typically drink so much at one time that blackouts are frequent in this population. In any given group of heavy drinkers, some will experience blackouts and some won't. This is due to biological variability - different people have different sensitivities to the effects of alcohol. National Council on Alcoholism

Is addiction a disease? Whether a person is genetically or bio-chemically predisposed to drug addiction or alcoholism is a controversy that has been debated for years within the scientific, medical and recovery communities. One school of thought advocates the "disease concept," which embraces the notion that addiction is either an inherited disease in that the individual is permanently ill at a genetic level, or that he has acquired the disease from other factors, such as continual drug abuse or modeling the behaviors of his family. Either way, to assign responsibility for alcohol or other drug addiction to a disease makes it very difficult for an individual to be in control of his life or to be successful maintaining long-term recovery , or experiencing long periods of sobriety.

From the prior counseling center located in Buffalo to our home in Lancaster, God has guided and blessed beyond measure!
Most of the issues you have been struggling with, or are experiencing right now, have been issues that have become personal victory through the power of Jesus Christ! Victory has been found from substance abuse, divorce and many other fears and feelings that try to rule our lives. For great encouraging books and music please feel free to link to our Books and Music link available on some of the pages.
