    Main article: History of Zambia
The indigenous hunter-gatherer occupants of Zambia began to be displaced or absorbed by more advanced migrating tribes about 2,000 years ago. These group of people are called Bushmen. The major waves of Bantu -speaking immigrants—the Bantu expansion —began in the 12th century ,the Tonga people are first to settle in Zambia and are believed to have come from the far east near the big sea which can be around the Red sea where human civilisation started and with the greatest influx between the late and early 19th centuries . They came primarily from the Luba and Lunda tribes of southern Democratic Republic of Congo and northern Angola but were joined in the 19th century by Ngoni peoples from the south. By the latter part of that century, the various peoples of Zambia were largely established in the areas they currently occupy.

Old Fashioned Africa
The private tented camps are very few and far between but all are small and offer an extremely personal atmosphere while maintaining excellent standards. The vast majority of visitors spend time along the Lower Luangwe and Zambezi River Valleys. With open-vehicles, bush walking with armed guards and night game-drives you are virtually guaranteed fabulous gameviewing, most of it close-up and exciting. Walking is strongly recommended and the guides are professional and courteous. One truly feels "this is the old fashioned Africa" they have dreamt about.

Table Mountain, the Serengeti, Zanzibar, Victoria Falls, the Okavango Delta and many more will all take your breath away.
For nature at its best, Botswana is the place. Explore the waterways of the Okavango Delta, spot game on one of the many islands, or get back to nature in the Kalahari wilderness. Botswana is home to some of the most exclusive and authentic safari retreats. Camp numbers are restricted to preserve the fragile eco-systems so you are guaranteed no crowds.

Justice and peace worker Mulima Akapelwa from Zambia Mulima Akapelwa works in the Catholic Centre for Justice, Development and Peace, part of the Catholic Bishops Conference in Zambia. She sees 2005 as the year to make poverty history, to get the necessary commitments and agreements that lead to a better situation for the future.
Promoting justice...
In the Justice and Peace Department cultural issues are also important.
Success with the debt campaign
She remembers participating in the 1998 G8 human chain in Birmingham. She also believes there has been progress in Zambia itself.
Bridging the gaps
"CAFOD has had a relationship with the Zambian conference supporting some of the work especially the development projects such as the Structural Adjustment monitoring project, looking at the effects of structural adjustment. CAFOD wanted to work in developing countries where the policies of the IMF and World Bank were being implemented and to see how that affected people so that people could contribute. Things should not continue being the way they are with huge numbers of people suffering whilst others are just enjoying themselves and are not bothered Mulima
Mulima People are tired of unfulfilled promises and unjust relationships in the world, especially around trade.

Module Twenty: Southern Africa
Activity Three: Culture, Society, and Production in Southern Africa As a region, the peoples, cultures and societies of southern Africa share some communalities. However, just as there is geographical and environmental diversity within southern Africa, so too is there social and cultural diversity within the region. Indeed, the social and cultural diversity can be explained, in part, by the geographic diversity of the region. For example, in the semi-arid and desert areas of southern Africa, the social organization and cultural practices of the people who live in these areas are quite different from the organization and practices of people who have lived in the well-watered coastal plains on the east coast of the region. Can you think of some geographical and environmental reasons for these social and cultural differences? History is also important to understanding social and cultural diversity within southern Africa. For the past ten to twenty thousand years the southern region of Africa has been home to

Water and Culture
by Megan Mann , Mapulanga, Zambia Zambians often drink "Katubi" (pronounced Ka-z-be) during ceremonies. The villagers make it with water and millet. Every August, the chief has a celebration, and the people will begin making Katubi weeks beforehand in order to have enough for the party. Water is also used in making art. One villager soaks his basket strips so they are moist to be shaped and don't snap. Another woman uses water to make pottery. Both of these villagers are very talented, and don't realize just how gifted they are.

Aquaculture extension in Zambia by C.T. Maguswi Aquaculture development has received a lot but fragmented attention even though its importance and potential for providing food and individual income cannot be over-emphasized. The history of fish farming in Zambia dates back to the 1950s. Later in the 1970s, there was an influx of international technical development programmes that were implemented with multilateral and bilateral organizations such as FAO, NORAD, JICA, UNDP and others. These interventions resulted in an evident increase in the number of farmers adopting fish farming enterprises: the number currently stands at just over 6 000. Total Historical background and review of projects FAO/UNDP (1980-1989). Projects produced technical and extension manuals from the results of on-station technology trials. The integrated approach packages included the use of external inputs such as pigs and Peking ducks which were adopted by medium and large scale commercial farmers. However the adoption of the same by small-scale farmers was low due to demand for external inputs such as feed for these animals. ICARA I and ICARA II (1982-1988).
